Broken - browser thumbnails

In my workspace I have several files that have broken thumbnails.  You cannot see the thing in the browser tree.  I've tried saving, resaving, updating a linked component (only some with the issue have linked components), and clearing cache.  This issue persists cross different PC's, and it is also broken in the online view.

How can I fix these?

e.g. see "Caster MountAssy" in tree below

Mine is still having failures as well.  File with missing thumbnail was created 2/6/24 originally.  No thumbnail.

Added you to the project... (raj.kumar.ilanchelian@autodesk.com)

@enktech Need some clarification this statement " did go up one folder and modify and save a file and the thumbnail did not disappear."

Are you saying that you have two difference projects A and B. In Project A you are able to see all thumbnails that are created and in Project B none of the files created/saved are seeing thumbnails?

Thank you for the logs and the design share. Will look at them.

@scott.horton7KAQV Scott, thank you for the invite. let me take a look.

Yes in one project folder all but one file has lost its thumbnail.  Other folders seem to be mostly ok.  Thumbnail loss has been a problem all along but in the past it was just one file here or there.  This is different.
Something that may or may not be related.  If I leave Fusion open and go do something else for say 10 minutes, when I come back the user interface is partly locked up.  The cad model display portion of the UI is frozen.  I can click on menu items but the cad model is unusable.  If I close that file its image stays frozen in the forefront.  The only way to fix it is to close and open again.  Since the last update I have to do this many times a day.  In the past I could keep fusion open for weeks without issue.

@enktech Still exploring the design you attached and why there is no thumbnail on it.

Regarding the freeze that you are seeing certainly not related. It appears that it could be graphics? When you close Fusion do you get a crash? Also, do you see any message like Fusion was disconnected from the network when you left it idle?

The next time this happens, if you can collect the Fusiondiagnosticslogs.zip right at that time and send it that would help.

When I close fusion it closes normally and I get no warnings whatsoever.  Everything looks normal until I try to rotate the model and nothing happens.  If I try to click on another open model tab the model in the foreground is stuck.

Also getting stuck busy cursor where the busy cursor will sometimes turn on and just stay on all the time even though nothing should have triggered it.  Again no error messages, working online etc.  Here are the logs while it is happening.  My hardware setup hasn't changed between when things worked and now.

@scott.horton7KAQV Scott, regarding your design, I see that this was saved in 2.0.17954. Are you still on that version? I am on the latest 2.0.18441 and I exported your design and reimported it back in and do see the thumbnail.

Can you please update to the new version of Fusion and make a small change to the design and try again?

Made no difference.  Tried editing 2 files with bad thumbnails, using current version.  I dont' think I have much choice about the versions, they come and install.  I always let it.  When I logged in today, it was on the current version.  This problem persists since the beginning of this thread.  Seemingly random fails.

@scott.horton7KAQV Hmmm. So here is what I did.

1. Downloaded the file that had this issue
2. Uploaded it back to Fusion
3. Saw the thumbnail

Can you try the same?

1. Export the file
2. Then in the data panel you can "import new version" and select the file that you exported
3. See if this helps with bringing the thumbnail back
(another random test would also be to import that exported file as a new file and see if you are seeing the thumbnail)

I did as asked. That fixed the thumbnails in that project.  Lot of trouble though.  So I went to fix others in other projects, as this is a regular failure.  Here's another one, this one does not fix with that process. See screenshot.  I'm adding you to that project now..

Someone needs to figure out why it's happening and prevent it.  Even with this process, if I had linked objects wouldn't this process break those relationships and the related files?

@scott.horton7KAQV "Someone needs to figure out why it's happening and prevent it". Absolutely. This is the intent. It is going to take some time to figure this out but we will keep tag on it. Once again having access to the design helps because it is likely that it is not one problem that is causing all of this.

FWIW, sometimes I accidentally leave F360 running on my shop laptop or my office desktop, then go to use the other device.  I get the offer to suspend the work on the other PC, which I do.  I can't say if any of the affected files are open when that happens, it's possible, but not probable.  In case that's whats hosing it.

@scott.horton7KAQV @Highly suspect that a suspend would cause this and always cause this. Personally I would close Fusion by choosing that option rather than a suspend.

I'll be more careful, to be sure I move cleanly, we'll see.

@scott.horton7KAQV I checked the Woodwork project and could not see the file that you attached called Dust collector Motor Pos 2. All other files in that project seem to have thumbnail except one that was last saved in 2023. I believe the same workaround will work on that too. So all of your designs should now have thumbnails.

I did some housecleaning and in the process deleted some of the old files with broken thumbnails (old versions not needed). I’m watching them closely. I’m an educator and not a heavy user this time of year but will put any updates here.

@enktech Thank you for your patience while I work with our engineering team.

So on your model that you shared, we know how to fix your specific file but we do not yet know what is causing them.

1. If you give us the latest version of this file
2. I can fix the model and give it back to you
3. You can add it as Insert new version
4. Moving forward you will get thumbnails

As mentioned earlier we do not yet know what is the root cause on why it happened in the first place. Let me know if I can help fix the version for you.

Attached is the fixed version of the file you had posted the other day.

Still broken.  This design was started and never opened on any other PC.  I got another update today, I've restarted Fusion, reopened the file, made a change and saved.  Thumbnail remains broken.  On web and PC UI.

I made a copy of

scotthorton7KAQV_0-1709312873456.png

the bad file, exported, imported new version, that file, too, remains with broken thumbnail.
