Unwanted selection of old geometry

Hi everyone,

A newbee question here.

I imported a stp file and needed to clean it up, basicly redo everything.

Started a new sketch on a face of the old model and made the sketch.

If I now want to mirror it or extrude it or whatever, it snaps to the old geometry and/or faces from the old model as well.

Could not find a way to turn of the old stuff, because it seems to be part of the face I'm working on.

Drives me nuts here, and is probably a new users issue.

Could someone please explane how to avoid these unwanted snaps?

tried it with closed file, with open file, I must be missing something.

Should be easy but not in my case.

Solved it!

After searching further in the forum I was able to find out what was happening.

It is almost impossible that I would be the first to have this problem, so several solutions should be on the forum.

The solution was to turn off the "auto project edges on reference" and "auto project geometry on active sketch plane"

This prevents untwanted geometry on the active sketch plane. Probably the auto project edges should be kept turned on.

Don't know if it is possible to put the wanted geometry on a new sketch plane, as it is almost impssible to select only the wanted geometry. 

Good chance I have to do it all over again the right way. No problem, I'm on a learning curve here and found out over the last 20 years that you learn a lot from making and then fixing mistakes.

Why I wasn't able to get the public link right isn't clear to me, will have to dig in here as well.

Hi Niek,

1. The irritation with the upload was caused by a project file (f3z) containing 2 f3d files.

The f3z must  be uploaded to the Fusion data panel first and saved.
2. You have already registered the problem with the "autoprojections".
In the screencast, I inserted a sketch in front of the first extrusion and placed a projected (manually) profile of the original part into and then renewed the extrusion. I did the same with another extrusion (at the end of the timeline).
I hope that the SCREEENCAST brings some light into the dark.
