Unrecognized text in PDF export

Missing TExt Error.jpgThe April update for multi-page PDFs is great except for the fact that all of my text is not being recognized and showing up as squares in the PDF.

Is this an issue with fusion? or what? The title block was made in AutoCAD with attribute text boxes. But not sure if this is the issue as ALL of the texts has disappeared.

I just tested using a custom title block and it worked OK for me. What font did you use, have you tried one of the standard fusion drawing templates?

Edit. Just noticed your dimension text is missing as well so it's not just a problem with your title block. Have you tried shutting Fusion down and restarting, if that doesn't help maybe reboot your PC.

Hi aa.sachs,

We haven't heard other reports of this (yet), I'm hoping you can provide some more information.  Are you on Windows or Mac?  Which OS?  I'm assuming the drawing views correctly in Fusion, the issue is solely with the PDF output and this is new since the latest update.  What Font are you using in the drawing?  If you change it in the drawing (Annotation Settings at the bottom of the window) to something like Arial and output the pdf again, is it also incorrect?

Thanks,

Chris

I am using Mac OS X El Captain, with the latest Fusion 360 update. Tried restarting Fusion and still experienced the problem.

The title block was created using the font Helvetica Neue. All of the text can be viewed in Fusion itself, only issue is when in PDF.

Tried changing the font in the Annotation Settings menu and the dimensions and some other text became viewable in the PDF (the text in the title block is assigned to Helvetica Neue through AutoCAD it seems), BUT the kerning (spacing between letters) is not consistent. See screenshot: note the "i n" after each dimensions, and how the "Project" block and address block (bottom right) have changed even though it is part of the title block and other original parts of the title block have not. The part the begins "2" square tube..." is a text placement in Fusion.

Will try changing my title block settings when I get a chance, but no solid fix yet.

Did you ever figure this out? I am running into the same issue. I am on a Mac. I can see the text if i open the pdf with Acrobat, but if i open it with illustrator, all teh text is missing. Any fractions actually keep the fraction line but the numbers are missing. Untitled.jpg

mfoster,

What ended up solving the issue I was experiencing was simply changing the font in my source title block from Helvetica Neue to Arial.

I made the text in the original block file Arial as well as the Fusion 360 default font in Fusion 360>Preferences>General>Drawing.

It solved the tracking problem and the missing text problem in PDF export! Maybe something wrong with specific font recognition in Fusion?

Hope this helps!

I have the same issue.  It seems that Fusion 360 doesn't correctly handle non-Arial fonts on export to PDF.  Would be great to get this resolved.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately your suggestion did not work work me. However I came across an annoying workaround on the forum. If you open the pdf in acrobat reader pro and save it in the "optimized" format, the text then shows up in illustrator.  Have you found any other solution?

Thanks again,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Are you using Adobe illustrator 22.0.0?  As far as I can see, we've had no changes on our (Fusion Drawings) side but this issue began in that version of Illustrator.  Currently, as you've found, Exporting to "Optimized PDF Format" in Acrobat works around the problem, but I agree this extra step should not be required.  We are tracking this issue on our side (internal reference FDWG-9270).

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks @cmiller66 for the reply!

I am using illustrator 20.0.1. I have had this problem since I started using fusion a little over a year ago. Are you saying previous versions of illustrator did not have this issue? Any idea how long it takes to resolve something like this?

thanks again

Mark
