unable to extrude a sketch on an existing surface.

up until this week i have been able draw a sketch on an existing surface ( smaller circle) to extrude the area between the inner and outer circle. Now when you try to select that area it selects only the whole disc surface.

For this purpose you have to project the body into the sketch.

Yes i know that . But you didnt have to do this before recently. If you look at some of autodesk tutorials they dont do this. It seems a waste of time to chang it.

It is possible one of the Fusion 360 updates has removed one of your Preferences and you did not notice it.  You must have the outside circle, either an applied sketch or a project one to extrude what you desire.
