Unable to add draft to some surfaces in model - help please

I've designed a relatively simple heat press mold in F360. I need to have 10 deg. draft on all surfaces. I had no trouble on all but three edges, but cannot find the reason I get odd behavior or just error messages on the last three of them...
Could someone please put me on the right path and/or find my errors?

The jpg file shows which surfaces don't have draft. I also noticed a glitch with extrusions in the "x" corners that I can't fix. These are not critical but I'd like to know what I did wrong - if someone can be bothered to check.

Lastly, I don't know how to share a file from my cloud storage here  - or to anyone else. How do I do that, please?

Cheers,

Joe Hovel (in Australia)

Hi Joe,

1. clean up the sketch with its multiple (2 / 3 times) lines
2. extrude with taper

Thank you very much Guenther!

How can I find duplicate lines in my sketches, please? I've occasionally found some accidentally, but I have no idea how to go looking for them deliberately 🙂

Secondly, I had no idea you could extrude with taper. That will make things like this much easier!

Cheers,

Joe

That didn't quite work.... The taper extrusion isn't possible as it turned out, because its not allowed to overlap - draft is - in narrower spaces than the angle of the taper allows....
Back to cleaning up the sketch: I found a few duplicate lines by the laborious process of deleting lines and seeing if they disappeared: if the didn't, they were duplicates... THERE MUST BE A BETTER WAY.

Found a couple of microscopic discrepancies. Finally I was able to apply draft to all flanks.

Now I get a completely new error message when I try to generate milling tool paths: apparently there is a face missing in the model. I can't find anything missing.....

Always two steps forward one step back 🙂 I'll keep trying to figure it out or will put a new post here.

Hi,

1. taper is always limited by the geometry
2. double lines can be found like this

double line 2.gif

3. constrain the sketch

 Dear Guenther,

I just went to check out my entire sketch to look for remaining duplicate lines.

Now EVERYTHING is going wrong.... When I open the sketch I get the warning that a face is missing, then the body disappears and the sketch is completely different (lots of blue squares on all lines). When I click on anything, I get an error message to say that "some of the features are set to invisible" and the whole sketch disappears. When I saved it, the whole file is empty! This is very frustrating.... I went back to an earlier version and exported it to my desktop for backup.

Would you please have a look at it and tell me what I'm doing wrong now?

As I mentioned earlier, I am still unable to create anything in 'Manufacturing' as tool paths - that worked perfectly yesterday with the model with still missing draft sides. Now that all the sides are as they should be (as a result of your advice), I can't get any further with tool paths at all.... The error message is the 'missing face' that I can't find - yet it is clearly visible in the model.

I'm right out of my depth with this - after 6 months of formal school and lots of other modelling without any issues (but no drafts or tapered extrusions, haha...).

Kind Regards,

Joe

Hi Joe,

1. the visibility of the sketch was disabled

2. I have edited the text sketch in V-Carve.

I removed the outer contours (CX) and added them again with offset incl. corner editing.
After the import into Fusion it looked much better.

Thank you again for your helpful assistance Guenther!

Your version changed some of the critical dimensions, but it allowed me to see how you went about it. I was able to do exactly what I need to as a result.

It is a steep learning curve but learning is the purpose of these projects for me!

I love being able to ask someone - exactly what these forums are for, of course.

Kind Regards,

Joe
