Suggestion: Allow body selection for Join operations

When creating a cut by extruding a sketch through multiple bodies, Fusion 360 allows you to select which bodies the cut should apply to.

It would be very useful if the same body-selection option were available for Join operations as well, including extrude, revolve, loft, and similar features.

Currently, the workaround is to temporarily hide any bodies that should not be included in the join. However, this can become problematic when editing features earlier in the timeline. Changes to the beginning of the feature tree can cause bodies to become visible again or otherwise change their visibility state, requiring additional manual adjustments to ensure the correct bodies are included in the join.

Having an explicit body selection for Join operations would make the behavior much more predictable and robust, especially in designs containing multiple bodies. This would also make Join operations more consistent with how Cut operations already work.

p.s. Solidworks has had a similar feature for years

Hi @lmavandervaart ,

Thanks for the detailed suggestion and for explaining the workflow.

I agree that having an explicit body selection for Join operations, similar to Objects to Cut, would make the behavior more predictable in multi body designs. It would also avoid relying on body visibility as the mechanism for controlling which bodies participate in the Join.

Your point about editing earlier features in the timeline is especially useful, since changes there can affect visibility or geometry and make the current workaround less reliable.

I will capture this as an enhancement request for Join operations such as Extrude, Revolve, Loft, and similar features, with the goal of allowing users to explicitly choose which bodies should participate in the Join.

Thanks for taking the time to describe the use case clearly.
