suddenly unable to select a component to combine

looked around for others that might have the same issue, and the most i can find are some tips on selection filters.   the components are not set to not-selectable.

i'm unable to select components for combination in older models where i was previously able. all models are affected, so i looked for other global settings that might turn off selection for the combine-tool.  nothing leaped out at me.

i'd be really thankful for a tip here.

In the past Autodesk supplied an Automatic Clean Uninstall tool but it has been incorporated into the Fusion 360 Service Utility so you will not find it on the internet, at least from Autodesk.  They still offer the Manual Clean Uninstall "process" for both Windows and MAC which you will find here.  The Manual method requires a reasonable amount of effort to locate and remove files and folders AFTER the application has been uninstalled.

you said the CLEAN method is an alternative.

there is no alternative in the service utility with the word 'clean' in it.

i've just tried the manual uninstall process that had me delete, using my command line, a laundry list of files from my user account's Library folder, etc.

many of the files that i was to delete in this process didn't exist.

after re-installation, the issue persists.

aaaaaand just now, i tried deleting the folders entirely:

/Users/<myuser>/Library/Application Support/Autodesk

/Users/<myuser>/Library/Application Support/Fusion 360

ran the installer.

issue persists.

Hi,

Have you already tried my recommendation (3.) from my post 40?

in the default order of messages, message 40 is from the whisperer, and i think the suggestion is to check select-filters.

i did:  all things are included in the filter so all things should be selectable.

i believe installing fusion on another device, using a new user account accomplishes this.  the issue persists despite this attempt to distance myself from whatever is going on in the original device where i discovered the issue.

so whadayasay, günther ?
is this issue going to make it to the dev team ?

i write software for a living btw.

if the team wants me to reproduce with a test setup & logging/debug, i can do it.

@tio.a WE got an email from you asking for support about this thread. I have now send you an email as well but also following up here on the thread. Took a quick look at the thread and are you trying to solve the original combine operation issue or the uninstall issue (or both)? Just want to clarify on the exact request that you had emailed us about. Thank you.

@tio.a In this assembly, you seem to be picking components that are part of a sub assembly. Can you try to activate that sub assembly and then run the combine at the sub assembly level?

hey, thanks for getting back to me and continuing this support thread.
when i pointed out that the re-installs weren't working, it was in relation to fixing the behaviour that's causing problems.  the installation process seems to work, it's just that the problem persists:

i can't select a component.
