Split face error

Hi there,

So I am working on a few leaf like shapes in fusion 360 for a specific project. Attached is a file of a simple version that I want to make into a flat pattern using the sheet metal function. I had previously gotten the advice to create a very small 0.01x0.01 square split face on the surface, then to offset this split shape by 0.01 and then to use this small incision as a stationary face. I used the exact same advice, which worked fine in a different more complex model. However, whenever I try to create a split surface with extending the splitting tool, an error occurs. As if there would be no intersection. Any ideas as to why this would cause an error here and work perfectly ok in a different model?

In the model's last sketch you can see the small square I used for splitting, at the top of the open vein in the leaf.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply! I do use thicken to create the shape, however I do not understand how you would use trim in this case. Since the projected square is not directly on the surface itself, but rather I need to extend the cutting edge in order to make the split

See the Attached file.

You can change the 1mm tab to say, 0.1mm if desired.
