Sheet Metal Rules - Unable to change thicknes

As the title says,

I am unable to change the sheet metal rules. I want to change the thickens of the sheet metal, but I am unable to do so.

The edit rule or create new rule button is gone?

I can switch to a different rule, but cant find where I can modify or create a new one.

They all default to 1mm thickness, and I can't find any way to change them.

I have the latest Fusion360 version (2.0.4860)

I had no problems doing it in the past.

Hi @kukajol,

Sheet metal can be testy and it could be from a feature(extrusion) that limits the rule change. For example, sometimes a hole or cut that extrudes a specific distance rather than "all" or "to object". Can you share the model?

"Can I share the model?"

Just create a new project with a simple rectangular metal sheet, and tell me if you can change any of the rules, for example the thickness.

Yeah i can do that from a new one without any issues:

Here is a simple flange changing from various sizes and rules:

As I wrote before:

"I can switch to a different rule, but cant find where I can modify or create a new one."

What you demonstrated is changing rules.

My rules are all default to 1mm. Can you demonstrate how to change for example the thickness of a particular rule, or create a new rule with different values?

It turned out, I had the Preview - new UI Experience option enabled in my account preferences.

I have turned it off, going back to the classic UI without the "tabs", and the option "modify sheet metal rules" under MODIFY is there.

So the problem only applies to the new UI "tabbed" Experience.

Haven't used the old UI for a while and don't have time to switch at the moment but I can edit a rule in the new UI. Click Sheet Metal Rules and select edit or is there something different in the old UI?

Just notice the Sheet Metal rule button is not on the menu so if you remove it from the top toolbar I don't think you can get it back without a reset!

Edit Also notice Sheet Metal Rules are no showing up in the search toolbar either.

Exactly! It is not showing up! Finally someone noticed it!

I also don't have the edit button you have when I right click on the sheet metal rule in the tree. (I can only switch rules)

So how do you edit the rules in the new UI?

"so if you remove it from the top toolbar I don't think you can get it back without a reset!"

WHAT?! Remove it from the toolbar? HOW? How can I remove the default toolbar buttons?

and what do you mean reset?

You have the sheet metal rules button on your toolbar, the 6th one from the left. You can remove any buttons from the top toolbar just by dragging them off the toolbar, normally you can add them back from the dropdown menus. You can reset by right click on top toolbar and select reset but it will reset all your customisation of the top toolbars.

The edit option only shows up if the use the top toolbar sheet metal rules  button.

I am having a similar problem.  I can pull up and edit and add rules to my model, but it will not allow me to change the primary rule.  It has a lock icon next to the thickness line in the sheet metal rules.

Any ideas on how to get around that locked function?

Yes, your sheet metal body was created by using 'convert to sheet metal body' this fixes the rule to the interpreted value for the uniform thickness of the body (if not uniform it should fail). At this time you cannot convert and then change the thickness of the material using a rule change.

Was this a native sheet metal body in Fusion or an imported part?

So would it be possible for me to redo the same part as a regular extrusion?

This is behavior is not obvious and very un-intuitive. Suggest a message in the Flange dialog to alert the user as to why they can't edit material properties.
