Set Design to "Read Only For Me" By Default

When multiple people are collaborating on designs it's become cumbersome to have to manually switch to read only mode to avoid blocking someone else. I'd like to make this the default behavior if possible (either in general, or on a per-design basis).
I am willing to work with a script or add-in if need be, but everywhere else I look for info on this it seems to relate specifically to the read only/editable modes for free users. I am a paid user (as are all the people I'm working with) and I'm just trying to work with the temporary "read only for me" setting, not the full read only status of the design itself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I actually think this would be a great feature.

Our previous software used a system that worked like this, where files opened "read only" at first, but then you had to "check out" the file if you wanted to work on it.

We don't have a large team, but a lot of times I want to open a part just to look at it, and if someone else needs to do something on it they have to track me down and ask me to close it first. Having an option would alleviate a little bit of this. It might also be nice to keep anyone from making accidental changes to the file.

Hello! I have unfortunately not found a solution yet. I agree I will update here though if I do.
