Select referencing joints

I have a model I'm working on with about 100 parts. Recently I've started having trouble finding the joints that are constraining some parts. either the command is missing from the menu, works as expected or lights up every joint in the whole model. I'm pretty sure its something I've done wrong but the question is how do I track it down to solve it?

You do not show the command you are either using or referring to but from your description, you are in the right place.  In my screencast, which has no sound, I use both processes to select components that have a particular joint applied and the reverse where I select a component and show all the joints applied to it.  In the first process, I also use the Isolate command to remove all the other components.  Hope this helps.

Thank you that was helpful. There must have been some glitch on mine, I never noticed that the reference joints command made all the joints visible except the pertinent ones which are highlighted blue. never having had an issue with it I hadn't noticed the other joints. On this drawing, there was something wrong with one of the joints in the component I was interrogating and it seemed to cause all the joins and planes to be highlighted in the whole assembly. it reverted to this more normal behavior when I deleted the bad joint.

Thanks
