Removing unwanted faces or body

I'm new to Fusion 360 but most tutorials build a model up. I'm trying to make a simple house-brick (eventually with letters extruded on the upper surface but I'm not there yet). Most forum posts with 'unwanted faces' seem to start from scratch and use the revolve feature but a house brick isn't circular. When I draw lines on the top surface and move the inner points down to create a traditional house brick - the top is always filled in (see attached).

How do I get rid of the top 'body' so to make a 3D traditional house brick?

If I delete the top surface / face it always fills it back in again.

is that your goal?

If not, please upload a picture of real object.

Have you done any of the tutorials? Try starting here on sketching.

Simple extrudes will create a brick, see screencast.

Many thanks to both replies. Both taught me new things. I've been doing the 'Learn Fusion 360 in 30 days' YouTube videos which are great but I have a specific project in mind.  I'll do more tutorials about sketching but please see attached result - which is perfect 😁

I got this to work a few weeks ago as part of a larger project - but I'm trying to document the 'end to end' process. Trying to do this again - when I extrude the two rectangles, after the extrusion the inner rectangle completely disappears. I've tried various scenarios but simply end up with one extruded rectangle. Do I stop the sketch at any point in the process, do I select the inner then outer rectangle, do I extrude up or down (I've tried all these but it doesn't seem to end up with the inner rectangle still available to pull down the brick surface into the triangles.
