Remove an enclosed face in Sketch mode?

Sorry for the extremely beginner question, but I somehow could not find the answer in any searches. When editing a Sketch, is it possible to remove the center face in the attached image, to indicate that that should be open space instead of a solid area? Or is that perhaps not a feature because it won't make a difference if I just choose to not extrude the center?

If you want a hollow box then you would need those lines to define the inside of the box but you can delete the lines if you don't want them or you can extrude the center or not extrude the center, any way is fine. You should add dimensions though to fully define the sketch and turn the lines black.

Your last statement is probably the best and quickest solution, do not select the inside square for extrusion.  In my Screencast, I used this method.  I went on to do it another way just to emphasis there are many other ways to skin the cat.  By the way, make sure you have your sketches fully constrained, change color, before you do any solid creation.  In your sketch I see sketch constrain glyphs but I do not see any dimensions.   In my Screencast, my sketch lines are white, which means they are fully constrained in my color scheme (they were blue before adding sketch dimensions). Learn the right way and do not take shortcuts, you will thank yourself later.

I do want all the lines I've drawn. It's meant to be four pieces of wood creating an open box. So my understanding is that the idea of "open space" doesn't really apply, because even hollow space that is enclosed is defined as an area/face. Is that correct?

Incidentally, I do have dimensions on all of those lines, I just hid them. Not sure why they are blue? I copied and pasted them from another model (where those lines are black), wonder if something weird happened in the exchange.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks @jhackney1972, that's exactly what I was trying to understand. Much appreciated!

Black sketch articles in one sketch to blue in a copy means you missed some dimension or constraints during the paste, easy to replace them.

Might help....
