Re: Configurations did not save properly

I need serious help. I'm having this same issue but the "workaround" doesn't seem to do anything

We have this big configured assembly with mostly external references. Some sub-assemblies are also configured designs. I've been working bottom-up updating parts and sub-assemblies, mainly part numbers or supplier references for example. Or adding/removing/replacing some components. Trying now to update the top assembly gives me the "Design repair required"

Fusion Fail 1.jpg

I've been getting this up-to-now-just-annoying message on the top assembly or some other of the configured sub-assemblies for a while. Just saving design was working until now. Even then, saving, closing and reopening files would prompt the message to show again (hence the annoying part)

Trying to update individual sub-assembly rather than "update all" option on top asks me to open and save said assembly because apparently has the same issue. Opening that gives the "Design repair required" as before but when I save things just get stuck on the upload queue

Fusion Fail 2.jpg

I've tried manually clearing the queue and tried a few things, like the workaround mentioned here but no luck

I'm tempted to clean uninstall fusion completely and re-install but I'm afraid of loosing things in the process. Configurations doesn't make it any easier to now which configured version of what has been uploaded

Hi @fpalmini

I moved your post to a new thread because the thread you replied to was quite old and very likely a different root problem.

Clean uninstall will likely not help in this case.

Can you try the following:

  • Create a new Configured Design, save it. Close and reopen the design after a minute or two. Do you get the same warning?
  • Collect and share diagnostic log files
  • Open a new design, and try to insert a Configuration from Chassis_B00. In the dialog that pops up, which Configurations are showing as "available" and which show "repair required"?

If none of that helps, the logs will tell me more.

Cheers,

Karina

Hi @karina.harper, thanks for helping

I've attached the logs here for you

Going through and trying your suggestions I get:

 - Creating a new Configured Design, saving it. Closing and reopening the design after a minute or two works fine and I do not get any warnings

Trying to insert a configuration from Chassis_B00 I see that it's got the warning for "Design not yet available" (that's new).  Trying to insert it into a new design shows me one of the configs seems to be hanging in the save/upload queue

fpalmini_0-1730710963785.png

It won't let me open the subassembly directly from the Data Panel, but I can right click->open from the Browser in the top assembly. When it opens I get the "Design repair required" saying all three configurations did not saved and need repair. I hit cancel so I can check things around but I see nothing wrong and can switch fine between configurations. Trying to save brings me back to the thing getting "Saved Delayed" in the upload queue

fpalmini_1-1730712332171.png

If I try now to insert a config into a new design the config selction pop-up shows for a second, then closes and I get an error in the lower right corner for "failed to retrieve configuration data". I can now open the subassembly from the Data Panel (still with "Design not yet available" warning)  and did not get any warning for config repair needed

Tried adding something something to the main config table (a construction plane to be shown/hidden) and saved. Now I'm back to not being able to open from Data Panel 🙃. Clearing cache an restarting does fix the latter and opens with no config error but back to square one. New version are being created for one of these configurations but are not getting saved in the cloud?

Thanks for trying that @fpalmini , I'm reaching out to the team that works on this type of Save. We may need to be added to the project to investigate, if that is possible can you add me (karina.harper@autodesk.com) to the project as an editor so I can view the save in the back end? We may need to have another developer added as well once I get a response from that team.

A couple other things:

  • Do you have any non-Fusion imported designs (like STEP files) that are used in the design?
  • Have you used the symbol "$" anywhere in the design? There is an issue we're working on fixing right now with that symbol in particular.

Cheers,

Karina

Hey @karina.harper. I've noticed my response disappeared for whatever reason...retyping roughly what I said first:

I've added you to the project already. Let me know who else I need to add once you know

We can do a video call if it helps. I've also created a support request and got a case number

To answer your questions:

  • We do have many non-Fusion imported designs all over the place. These are external components for OEM/commercial parts. Depending on what's in the file when imported I either "save copy as" or reorient things to save the file and add the relevant info for our BOM
  • I don't recall using "$" symbol anywhere. We do have some "®" and "²" (to show mm²). These are found in either components' names or descriptions. We also have "_" in the names as you may have noticed

Yesterday I narrowed down the "Chassis_B00" seem to be the only broken one. Everything else in the top assembly and subassemblies has been updated without errors

Thanks @fpalmini

I can see where the issue occurred, (it got stuck at v15 of that Configuration - v42 of the CD), but the Save team will need to dig in deeper about what happened in that save. One potential issue I see is that the table shows an empty theme table - "Z fasteners" shows as empty for me:

Screenshot 2024-11-05 at 9.42.59 AM.pngScreenshot 2024-11-05 at 9.43.03 AM.png

One thing that might be a workaround for you for now, would be just to "duplicate" the problem Configuration, and then maybe delete the original. That will create a new design in the back end with the same settings, and will have a new Save history. Then anywhere it's consumed you can right click and use "switch Configuration". Would that work for you?

What is your support case number?

Cheers,

Karina

Hey @karina.harper, Case# is 23288252

Do you see the theme table's been "corrupted" since v15 of that Configuration - v42 of the CD?? (Does it mean v14 is OK and v15 is broken?)

I'm almost certain I saw it get corrupted while I updated things. I was rolling back and forth the history, in combination with switching between configs to find the things I needed to update (and make sure each config was OK). At some point it became "blank". I couldn't add what I needed to it so I deleted and made a new one

Now, trying your workaround suggestion gives me the error below. Makes sense because it's been referenced by the top assembly. I'll try to delete the config in the Top assembly but doubt it'll work since older versions still reference it

fpalmini_0-1730894241488.png

Gotta say this whole Configurations versioning I really dislike. Feels kinda obscure and tricky to manage

Not sure what else to try now 😩 been stuck on this for almost a week now not been able to keep working

Only "solution" I can think of now is trying to make a copy of one of the OK configs. Then remake the whole CD subassembly from that to re-insert in the Top assembly. At least wouldn't have to do everything from scratch

EDIT:

You'll be please to know it seems your workaround worked! (just not they way I/you/we thought it would?)

Saving the CD subassembly with the duplicated config unstuck the original bad config!

Chassis_B00 no longer shows as "Design not yet available", all configs seem to have correctly uploaded and was able to update it in the top assembly

fpalmini_0-1730900546153.png

I then deleted the copied config from the subassembly (not referenced by anything) re-saved and re-updated the top assembly and everything seems to be working fine now

I'll go ahead and remove you from the project. Thank you so much for your help

I guess we can keep in touch if you guys need to investigate further what happened and ways to avoid it

Thanks for the update @fpalmini !

In our investigation, the team found that there was a particular subassembly that hadn't generated the correct data (should happen on save). Maybe duplicating the Configuration triggered the same generation, and allowed the other original config with the same reference to go through as well.

We will look into the root cause further and try and fix that. In the meantime, I'm glad that you are able to save again! Feel free to reach out if you have any other issues.

Cheers,

Karina

Hey @karina.harper

Just a quick FYI you may be interested in

Even though everything looks fine just closing and reopening the top assembly prompts the Repair required message

fpalmini_0-1730979898691.png

Doesn't seem to be coming from the subassembly thou

Tried creating a copy of the config that seems troublesome (it's in the same top assembly) just like I did for the subassembly. Then deleted the original since it ain't referenced anywhere, saved and closed. Reopened and no issues pop...that is until Fusion or PC restart!

So long as things don't break again I can continue to work but definitely there's somethings else going on here

@fpalmini

When you say there's issues after restart/something still going on, can you clarify? Are you still seeing a Repair required?

One thing, can you try opening "24V Supply Dispenser SKR Cable", leave it open for a few minutes, then close it? That is the problem subassembly - it might still be impacting the save of the top level Configured Design (VCP...).

Cheers,

Karina

Hey @karina.harper

Yes, I'm still seeing a Repair required message when I open the top assembly (like at the start of the day when I first open it)

What I manage to replicate the other day when I mentioned it was (All this on the top assembly):

- Save to repair and close. I check the "Job Status" and nothing's uploading

- I give it a few minutes before reopening

- No errors nor Repair required shown

- Close and restart Fusion (or restart the PC in my case)

- Open top assembly - > Repair required pops up

I just tried your suggestion of opening "24V Supply Dispenser SKR Cable", leave it open for a few minutes, then closed it, before opening the top assembly (it's the start of the day for me). Repair required message still came up

Thanks @fpalmini

Likely you will need to do one more 'repair required' after opening "24V Supply Dispenser SKR Cable" - can you try that one more time?

Thanks,

Karina

Hi @karina.harper

I know it ain't the best option for narrowing down what's happening. I'm actually updating and making drawings for all those cables assemblies, like the "24V Supply Dispenser SKR Cable".

I'll try your latest suggestion and take note of the steps as I continued to work and update things and let you know

Gotta keep grinding, you know? 😅
