Problem resetting orientation and exporting

I had some drawings done and sent to me in F3D format. I needed step format and converted myself however the home orientation was way off when I opened. I reset home orientation in the view cube and it seems right, but when I export it and reload the home orientation goes back to wrong.

Can you possibly share one of these designs? I ask because I tried to reproduce the effect you describe and cannot. Glad to take a look at your designs.

Hi Phil,
Two attachments, one F3D and a step file of the same.Step file is angled and upside down and when I re orientate and save it, it saves upside down as well.

1. The Capture Design History was disabled in the file that you Attached here.

Only inexperienced amateurs model with Design History disabled on something like this.

I recommend that you request a file with full history from the source.

 

For get the View Cube for now except for the XYZ glyph. (Ignore words like To, Front, Side...)

2. The proper technique for orienting the geometry (relative to the Origin and X,Y,Z) is with the Move/Rotate command.

Enable Capture Design History.

Move/Rotate as desired.

Attach your new *.f3d file here with the geometry in desired position.

OK,  it looks like you reversed the F3D file to look like the step file?  I'm cuurently trying to learn the Fusion,  yet right now I'm using a free lancer.  He sent me F3D files and my cnc router supplier couldn't open the F3D file. So I tried converting it to step yet it comes out upside down and angled.  What I need is step files.  Your screen shot has both in an upside down and angled position. The original F3D I sent is properly upright and vertical.  And actually I wanted it horizontal with the door bottom to left as that is how the machine will hold it.  The larger cylinder hole is slightly off center from the smaller handle holes and should be offet to the top.

Would you like to learn step-by-step how to model this yourself so that you don't have to rely on a "freelancer" who is also apparently learning how to use Fusion?

Thanks so much for detailed explanation,  I'll check it out and try it tomorrow.

Yes, I am interested in learning so I don't need the freelancer.

I am somewhat short on time and more so, patience.

I am self taught DWG and do my own die sets and aluminum profile systems but only learned just enough to do so.

Fusion  lets me know I don't know squat right now and it often seems as though I'm trying to log in with a password and don't realize I have the caps locked.

When I measure the geometry most of it appears to be inch units - but not all. 
Inch or mm?

OK, let's get started.

 

Start a new file.

Turn on the visibility of the Origin geometry...

Your original problem description is all about orientation of the geometry.

Ignoring words like Top, Front, Right, Left, Bottom, Back... ...right click on the desired XY, XZ or YZ plane and select Create Sketch...

Sketch a Center Rectangle at the Origin and dimension as shown...

Attach your *.f3d file here for next set of steps (at the beginning I will go in baby steps until I am sure you can follow along.  Gradually I will increase the speed (complexity) of individual steps).  Once we have covered the basics then we can return to your original problem statement and demonstrate a simple solution.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Right click on Sketch1 and select Edit Sketch...

Select the top horizontal line of the rectangle and mash x on the keyboard to convert to Construction linetype....

Sketch an additional Horizontal construction line and a vertical construction line as shown below...

Now sketch a 3-Point arc as shown...

Add a Midpoint constraint between the arc and the endpoint of the vertical construction line...

Dimension the radius of the arc...

Now add a short horizontal line at each end of the arc...

Extrude Two Sides as shown below...

Note: The actual extrusion distance is much greater than 400 and asymmetric but we will edit to take care of that later.

Tip: It is easier to work with a short part and then edit the Two Side Extrusion distances at the end.
