Parametric Text

Trying out the new Parametric Text feature and was wondering if there was a way to control how non text parameters were shown?  see attached for example, I would like it to show the 1/4" the parameter is vs the 0.25 in that is resolves to.  I have been using the ParametricText add-in which does what I want, but would prefer to have just one set of parameters to deal with.

You do not show your Parameter table to see how your parameter is entered but the maintaining of the "1/4 in" work just fine for me.  The Animated GIF will show this.

If this answers your question, please select the "Accept Solution" on my post. If you need further help, please ask.

thanks for the response

The difference on mine is that the 1/4" is a number used to make the model. The value and expression both show as 1/4 in the parameters fields, but when put into the text it converts them to decimal.  Maybe there is a way to have the model be fractional? But I do sometimes stick mm in that same field so not sure what it would do with that.

I could certainly make duplicates of the 5 numeric parameters in the actual model as text entities, but then every time I changed one I would have to change two.

As OP mentioned, this doesn't seem to be an option when you are using a numeric parameter in your textbox. If you have a text parameter it works, but a text parameter doesn't work in formulas. "Display value as fraction instead of decimal" would be the relevant setting that would need to be added, ideally on a per textbox (or per parameter) basis.

Not the most compact or pretty option, but it does technically work if you have a limited number of options you change the numeric parameter to. This way the text parameter is automated instead of having to remember to change the other parameter each time. In this example, 1/4 and 3/8 are automated and if you enter a new value it will default to showing something obvious to prompt you to add it to the whitelist.

Nested if statements have been quite useful for me lately, even if more than 3 variables get pretty hard to parse later.

nested if statements would probably work for my current project which is making gridfinity bins for my cnc bits which I do have a limited number of options. thanks for the suggestion.
