my custom descriptions, names and number parts on my designs components properties got lost on the update of may 15 2026

Hello, with the May 15th, 2026 update for autodesk fusion 360, the custom properties I had created for my components were lost, and on top of that, they are now locked as read-only, so I cannot update or edit them anymore.

This is a huge problem because I have hundreds of files with thousands of properties that I can no longer access or even attempt to fill in again.

I have tried every solution suggested by the assistant included in the software, and none of them worked (trying to change the properties from the Autodesk Web Hub, switching the design to the new hybrid type, changing the part number of the main component, checking that no component is derived or linked). Nothing works, and I cannot find a way to fix this.

I am in crisis mode.

I have experienced the same. It seems to have a knock on effect when making drawings. Parts lists do not populate with the part names and part numbers properly. I couldn't manage to fix it, so I had to give an unannotated drawing to a tradie yesterday. Thankfully, it was a small simple thing, but if it had been more complex, with more parts, it would have been a show stopper.

@danielolveraalvarez are these custom properties that you created in the Hub Administration? Is it perhaps a permissions issue at the folder level in Fusion or workspace level in Fusion Manage?

I'm having the same problem. I had already written the descriptions and assigned the part numbers, but after the update, all that information was lost. Now I don't know how to fix it because a lock icon appears and it won't let me edit it anymore.

We filled in all the custom properties directly inside the Fusion 360 design file by right-clicking the component in the browser tree and modifying the name, part number, and material description in the Properties window.

After the update, we found that the custom descriptions had disappeared and many part numbers had been changed.

I have folder administrator permissions, and even so, the system does not allow me to edit those fields.

This seems to happen randomly. In most parts it does not allow editing, but in some it does. I cannot find any pattern or characteristic that helps me understand how to solve it.

What is certain is that all of my custom descriptions disappeared.

Parts lists are duplicating component names on drawings for me. Definitely a major issue for complex projects. I have spent all day trying to fix to no avail. Everything is perfect in both model browser and drawing browser, but the parts lists are completely wrong.

Hello @RANDALLHFQCY,

The duplication in your parts list could be caused by shared part numbers. When multiple components share the same part number, they form a Part Number Group (PNG) and their properties are linked — this can cause components to appear duplicated or incorrectly grouped in drawing parts lists.

Refer to: https://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/?guid=FSN-SHARED-PART-NUMBERS

To remove parts from a Part Number Group (PNG):

Hello all, I appreciate that the recent update has caused some issues with properties and I just want to list out a few things to check first:

  • Review your project and folder permissions (image 1 below) - it is entirely possible that you were still on the old legacy folder types and they have been upgraded to Folder-Level Projects during the hub upgrade, which means that the permission levels for projects and sub-folders has become more granular.
  • Check to see if a part is a member of a Shared Part Number group (second image) - components with the same part number are grouped together and only one of them becomes the primary part that controls the properties and behaviour in BOMs and parts lists. See also the post above regarding separating out SPNs.

If the above doesn't resolve things, then please do submit a support request so that we can investigate further.

Thank you.

Hello everyone.

I'm still having the same problem. Tried and confirmed the things on the list, however none of them helped or solved.

Yes, I'm with the highest Permission Level on the folder, checked since the primary folder passing through each folder until the folder location with the file.

I tried to create a new file with a few design components in it, and I'm still having the same problem in it as well.

About checking the Shared Part Number, I couldn't figure it out how. I tried to open a few different files, however all of them shows the same exact status about their properties (as presented in attached image). It is important to highlight that the images represent different situations:

1. A simple file design, trying to edit the primary property;

2. A more complex design with 20 components, which I selected one of them;

3. Tried to select the primary property on previously mention file, (item 2, with 20 components).

Just addressing that, as mentioned by other users in this thread, that never happened to me before. However, we are struggling to solve this one, since we do use the Part Number in our Drawings to send for our manufacturing provider, and none of it is appearing on Drawing (the table shows Part Number as --).

Same problems here, even can not get a clear overview for the shared part number files and where the parts should be located. I've find out that also old file's in trash are locking properties.

I have the same exact problem. This has completely halted our production workflow and is actively costing us a substantial amount of money. How is this an acceptable change @emily.caulfield ?

I'm in contact with autodesk about this, I'll hope they can turn back this update which unasked changes our data. I will share my progess here.

I have given a lot of feedback to Autodesk over the past few days, but they have confirmed that it is absolutely a bug and have sent it back to the developers. They are keeping me updated. So I think this is going to take a while.

Hi Emily,

I already submited a support request, and tried the solutions you suggest, I have administrator permission level for all folders (already confirmed by support).

The problem is that part numbers "1", "2", "3" and so on is basically the way we numbered the parts in all of our designs individually, that means I have at least 70 to 80 different parts in different designs numbered 1 and so on, and in all that cases the original descriptions are lost, this was never a problem before and this is the system we use for our workflow, the "shared part number" if exist before may 15th it was never a problem, but now it is, and it really is making things hard for us, halting many of our projects and making almost impossible to adjust any of our designs made before this actualization.

Hope this helps to find a solution.

Hi Bhavani,

I couldn´t find a way to reply a private message but, I am really disappointed to report that the response from @emily.caulfield is not a solution for us, the response clarifies the way shared part numbers work with the latest actualizations but our custom descriptions are still blocked and lost. So if you can please unmark the Accepted Solution I´ll very much appreciate that.

This is killing me. Everything was just fine the way it was. Now every project is broken. Like always support from Autodesk is absolute garbage. I have never found a solution to my problems with simple google search. Every forum post is a dead end or a non-solution like, "maybe reset fusion?". I miss Solidworks. I might go back.

The mods at least honored my request to unmark this is as "solved." I also have been in contact with Autodesk and they assure me they're still "working on it," for whatever that's worth. Still having the same issues, and I see they've added a shiny new "this isn't working," warning.
