Minor bug - Selection Filter from Design overides Manufacture Environment

This isn't a big deal, but I noticed it today for the first time. I don't spend too much time in the Design environment but today I used some selection filters in Design, then I moved on to the Manufacture Environment and found those filters were still being applied even though they were not selected in the Manufacture workspace's Selection Filters.

Maybe this is intentional, but it seems like a bug to me...

I was easily enough able to resolve the problem by resetting the Design environment's filters and going back to Manufacture.

Hi @Jon_Bancroft ,

Thanks for posting this. I am curious - what was the expectation? Only asking, because I see pros and cons in this as well. I will report it to the team regardless, just wanted to see what it's impact was on you. I see the biggest issue in that there are selections that can ONLY be cleared by going back to the Model environment.

Thanks,

My reason for reporting this was I was unable to select an edge in the manufacture environment even though under the selection filters it showed that I should be able to select edges. I had to return to the design environment to change that environments filter to allow edges, then when I went back to manufacture I was able to select edges.

I assumed this was a bug because one environments filters showed I should be able to select something but I couldn't because another environment was taking precedence.

Does this make sense?

I was doing some sketching in the design environment where I wanted to only select body edges for doing some projections. And before resetting my filters in Design I then went to Manufacture. In Manufacture I went to create a setup and could not select an edge for my axis reference. The Manufacture environment showed "select all" as the current selection filter. The fix was to return to Design, where I still had "body edges" as the only selection filter, I reset it to "select all" and went back to Manufacture and went along as usual.

Pretty sure it's a bug, nothing crazy, but it seems the Design environment is overriding the other environments.

HI @Jon_Bancroft ,

I agree - I definitely misunderstood at first. Can you create a screencast demonstrating how you end up in this situation? I keep trying to recreate this and cannot. Was this during a command, or perhaps you are using the Selection Priority tool?

Thanks,

@James.Youmatz  This is pretty easy to reproduce. Just create a body in the model workspace, go to selection filters and turn all off. Go to the CAM workspace and create a set up, then create a 2d profile and try selecting an edge. You'll find all selection filters off, now enable all filters and you still can't select an edge will all filters on. From my tests the filters in the CAM workspace do nothing at all. There are some missing as well as you don't have filters for sketch geometry so you can't prioritise sketch elements.

Here I've disabled all filters in the model workspace then enabled all in CAM but can't select. I'm using the new UI in case that's different.

hi @Jon_Bancroft  @HughesTooling ,

thanks for the screencast!! I was able to reproduce this as well and have logged it with the development team as CAM-15912 for further investigation.

thanks,
