Merging Meshes

When merging two mesh bodies say A and B, A cuts into B and thus part of B's surface is covered by A, However Fusion 360 does not remove the surface where A penetrates B. I have had to delete the surface manually.Bucky ball v3.png

A=Open ended cylinder. One end is closed

B=Sphere

A is merged with B but to remove the intersection between the two surfaces  I had to delete the section of the sphere in the intersection manually.

Is this a short coming in Fusion 360 ? Please don't tell me to convert to BRep first. Fusion 360 should be able to manipulate the mesh bodies directly.

Hi @michael.annear,

It really sounds like you are looking for a Boolean command to edit your meshes. To my best of my knowledge this is going to be tough to do within Fusion. You can try to use the separate command in the Mesh workspace, but I have a feeling it may be tricky. Fusion, although it has a preview Mesh environment, isn't really designed to be a mesh editor. You would be better off doing the Boolean operations in a true mesh editor such as Meshmixer and then bringing the resultant meshes into Fusion.

Hi James,

Thanks for the response. You have confirmed my suspicions. MeshMixer is not as accurate as Fusion for placing bodies to merge with one another. Hopefully in the future Autodesk might consider including a Boolean merge function.
