Mac Trackpad Issue after Update

Some mac users have recently found their trackpad navigation has been impacted. These instructions are the current best solution while we're working on fixing it.

First ensure in Preferences that "use gesture based view navigation" is enabled.

Next:
1. In preferences, under Preview Features, turn on Native trackpad, and close preferences.
2. Try trackpad.
3. If it doesn't work, close Fusion (red x or command + Q)
6. Restart Fusion

Please reply here if this fix doesn't work for you.

@Anonymous, please see how Blender, with Native M1, has support for Magic Mouse and Trackpad.

Then just copy it.

Thank you.

Just updated to Apple Silicon which has gesture based support features, however the exact same issue persists, it has not been solved.

It's really unfortunate that Fusion 360 is STILL unusable on laptops 😞

May I ask, did you ever get this working?

Almost 3 months to the day, and it still doesn't work for me, really urgent issue since I can't use Fusion without it.

The latest, July 24 2023 software update log says Fusion was updated to (finally!) fix the trackpad support on Mac.

I was excited to download the update, only to find out Fusion still lacks inertial panning and is still practically unusable with a trackpad on a Mac. I am running on latest macOS (intel), I used the Fusion 360 Service Utility to repair, reset then ultimately uninstalled and reinstalled Fusion, the trackpad still doesn't work.

It's really exhausting having to scroll endlessly just to move the model a few inches.

Since the latest update my zoom has turned into an up/down scroll. I've reset all my preferences with no change to the zoom interaction.

I've read the comments and it's not very reassuring to see how far back these comments go with what looks like little resolution from Fusion.

@jodom4 any other ideas to resolve this issue?

Thanks

There is no and i was told will not be a solution for this other than buying a spacemouse or non Apple 3 button mouse.

I stopped with my payed subscription and use the free version now to acces my files and started working on free cad software for new designs.

Really sad about this because i loved Fusion 360.

I'm a relatively new fusion user but it seems like the new trackpad function is very much a one step forward, two steps back scenario.

Great that they can pull OS trackpad gestures but it really does need to implement one more modifier to the two finger navigation gesture.

I previously only had zoom and would use the nav cube to rotate.

Now I have trackpad rotate and pan with no zoom.

We need all three to be able to navigate properly.  That's all.  One more modifier.

It's kinda wild that we can't configure these ourselves.  Similar software has had this functionality for decades.

There is a new driver, but the trackpad gestures themselves haven't changed for years.  If you can't zoom (with 2-finger pinch), you might need to reset your config.

My settings are:

Pan/Zoom/Orbit: Fusion360

Orbit Type: constrained

Reverse Zoom: Off

Camera Pivot: On

Use Gesture Based View Navigation: On

That last one is vital for proper trackpad use.  2-finger scroll pans the view.  2-finger scroll with Shift rotates the model.  2-finger pinch zooms in and out.  3-finger drag selects (I have 3 finger drag set in macOS Accessibility preferences).  F6 resets the view if panning is crazy slow.

overall it now works nicely, except that the lack of inertia is a nightmare.

@Anonymous team, are you planning on including the inertia again? Because you killed the best extension (native trackpad) for mac users and replaced it with a super crappy UI. I now hate opening your program because of it, for real.

I have found a solution that may help with the slow panning problem:

Change your Fusion360 Pan/Zoom/Orbit shortcuts to "Tinkercad"

Download and install "Middle" by Ryan Hanson, which lets you emulate a middle mouse button.

In Middle's settings, select "Use fn and left click to middle-click".  Now in Fusion360, if you hold fn/globe and left-click-drag, it will be a fast pan instead of the horribly slow pan that Autodesk gave trackpad users.  You have to click; you can't just tap-to-click.

If you choose 3-Finger Click in Middle and also enable "Release when Trackpad touches removed", that works, too.  No fn/globe key is needed, but it is a bit fiddly and you can't use 3-finger dragging in macOS.

Bonus feautres:

fn/globe and double-left-click will Zoom to fit (like F6).

Two-finger-click-drag to orbit.
