Loft in modeling is giving me a patch?

OK, So out of the blue I was working on my drawing and needed to make some lofts. Well, I started making the lofts in the modeling environment. I am using create new body, but it is giving me just patch surfaces. If I use the combine feature, it looks like it gives me a solid body, but if I cut the body in half it appears hollow!?!? WTF is going on?

The only thing I changed (that I can think of) is that I enabled the Mesh work station, but now it is not visible?

I'm sure I am missing something, or I changed something without even realizing it...

Thanks

Hi @Geboy37,

Off of the top of my head, I don't see anything in the timeline that would suggest this happening. Can you share your .f3d file so I can take a closer peek?

Thanks,

Hi @Geboy37,

Thanks for sharing. I definitely think this is a bug. I dug into this and I honestly think it has to do with how the geometry was created. I noticed it was all inserted as a base feature. Can you give me some insight into how those curved bodies were created. If I roll back to right after the split body and do a projection on the face - you can see that the profile looks very off.

Based on your patchwork later in the timeline, it looks like you found a workaround - but I still think the original geometry may be causing this. I did notice if you remove the rails you get a solid body. I also noticed that the only issue lies on that face in my screenshot above (but on all profiles that were split).

Thanks,

Thanks for looking into this. Those bodies were actually taken from another drawing online. I have no idea what software was used to make the cylinder drawing, but I used that cylinder drawing and performed a boundary fill to create those bodies. I have defiantly noticed some weird things with that cylinder, hence kinda why I'm trying to manipulate it and remake it myself. I made those bodies and then scaled them to fit my needs, but I need to modify the lower half of them to get my entry correct.

I have been noticing a few buggy things these past 2 days. Like when I try to project an intersection of a body to a sketch plane, it wont let me select the body, but any body behind it I can select. I needed to turn off the surrounding bodies to be able to select the target body to project. Another is on one of the rails I made for the loft, I have tried re-drawing it at least 10 times, but I can not for the life of me get the rail to work in the loft. I keep getting a warning saying that the rail doesnt intersect....but it does!!!!

I have been digging to sort the loft connection, can't help with sketch26, got to agree with you, no apparent reason to fail, other than there is no sketch

In sketch 20, you have a duplicate projected line, and the  likely culprit, connection to the wrong line may do it, but deleting data (in not my file) produces a chain of errors, but you know the file so you may get there.

Loft is finicky enough, providing identical / duplicate end points, is enough to send you into the sin bin.

So how finicky is Loft command???, is found by accepting the duplicates at the other end of the pair of lines - go figure???  must be just 50 / 50.

Might help....
