Interface unresponsive on MacOS 10.13.6 High Sierra crashes.

Fusion seems unusable right now. I have multiple projects and when I edit sketch and even try to draw a simple 3mm line it will beachball. I have no issues moving around the screen, but as soon as I try to edit a sketch  once it gets into the sketch, if I try to change anything , beachball.

I've got a great example right now that I would be happy to show someone in a session. I don't have a magic mouse and again there is nothing about my setup that is causing it, it's just when I go into some decently sized sketches and try to edit that it blows up.. Actually this last one was a new project and I was just adding some small off axis boxes and beachball. I don't believe it's graphics.

Well screencast seems to kind of die when fusion dies, so can't really upload it.

Any assistance?

Hi @Anonymous,

Do you mind posting your diagnostic log files from the Help menu in Fusion. Also, what UI are you using? Are you using the new one via the Preview section in your preferences, or is it the default UI?

How complex is the model you are working in? You did say that you are editing a simple sketch, so I am envisioning the timeline rolling back. Do you see these errors if you recreate the same sketch in a brand new model?

Thanks,

Well I say it's simple but it's a decent amount of data. So it's not entirely simple. I did try to recreate using more patterns and It is doing the same thing.  I'll look for the logs. Logs posted. But I really would like to get this design completed and printed (it's for the holidays) but I can't get passed this beachball and since I already tried to recreate from scratch and ran into the same issue, it's got to be the number of lines.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for sharing the logs. I'll take a peek. When you say patterns - are you referring to sketch patterns or 3D patterns. Can you include a screenshot of your sketch that is having trouble updating with new dimensions.

Depending on the complexities of the constraints and dimensions, as well as the number of patterns, it is very plausible Fusion 360 is getting hung. Complicated sketch constraints/patterns are not easily handled.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for sharing the screenshots. Honestly - I'm not super surprised Fusion is struggling here. Fusion's sketch engine does hang when complicated calculations start happening. There's a lot of references and dimensions in this sketch that are redundant, which is in turn increasing the complexity and dependencies of each dimension.

My suggestion - cut this up into 1/6 of the design. Really we are taking a slice of the pie here and fully constraining it. Then, we will model this slice in 3D, and in the Create menu, create a 3D circular pattern to finish the design. My guess is you will see much better performance.

Thanks,

I actually did and ran into the same situation. I only did a single arm and patterned it. And it's still dying. Let me show you, it had to be a restore one, see if I can find the menu again..

Okay thoughts on this? IT's nothing like the first and still dies when trying to draw a 3mm line in the center section.  I may be able to back this one up and finish my center edits before adding the patterns but really? This is nothing compared to what many many people do

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you share the entire file with me? To be honest - the amount of points in each "circle" is concerning too. This is a lot of data coming in (at least what I can tell from a screenshot).

If I have the model I will do a few tests and suggest a few things. Which sketch should I edit.

Thanks,

Absolutely and yes someone else mentioned the dots in the circles. These are just nubs for friction fitting LED's, so I need them inside the hole (maybe there is a better way to do it?).

Thank you sir. But note, I'm not the only one that seems to be struggling on a . Mac lately. I'd love for my issue just to be me, but it seems ti be slightly more wide spread right now 🙂

Hi @Anonymous,

I'll dig deeper into this, but I really do think this is more a sketch performance issue due to the dimensions and constraints vs a Mac issue. I have seen the posts you are referring to and are investigating.

Take a peek at the model I attached and try this. You should have the best performance this way. Note, I went quickly and may have missed some of your original dimensions when recreating this. You could even go one step further and mirror or use equal constraints on the other half of the sketch. On mine - updates to dimensions seem to work.

Thanks,

ahh mirroring may actually be an option as well. Thank you, will take a look at your example. it's much appreciated!

Yes your method was clean, backed it up a bit and added my nubs, but it seems to be responding okay to changes. Thank you!!
