Installing Fusion in multi-user enviroment

Hi,

We are trying to install fusion for 'all users' on system. Though each user can install and use Fusion 360 just fine this duplicates ~2gb of data for every user that needs Fusion installed. How could we set Fusion up for this type of environment?

Hi Frank,

To set up Fusion once for all users do the following (on Windows):

  1. Login as the admin account.
  2. Open Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and navigate to the folder you saved the Fusion 360 Client Downloader.exe file to (normally c:\users\username\downloads).
  3. In this folder find the file that starts with "Fusion 360 Client Downloader". You will also notice a string of alpha-numeric characters in this file name.
  4. For easier command line operations rename this file to "Fusion 360 Client Downloader.exe".
  5. Next from the Start Menu or desktop find and right-click on the Command Prompt.
  6. Choose to Run as Administrator.
  7. In the command window go to the folder you saved the Fusion 360 Client Downloader.exe file to (normally c:\users\username\downloads). Enter the following command and include the quotes:

"Fusion 360 Client Downloader.exe" --globalinstall --quiet

Note: There are 2 dashes preceding the command line arguments

This will install Fusion globally on the system in the background (no UI).

8.  Once the install is complete logout of the admin account and login to the "standard user" account

9.  Launch Fusion and login.

NOTE: Do NOT run Fusion using the Admin account used to install it. Doing so creates a folder structure that "non-admin" accounts won't have access to and Fusion will fail to load.

Hope this helps.

We do we achieve the same thing on the Mac? Sometimes we use my personal Os X laptop to do tool paths for our CNC. I have a separate user account for using during workshops. I can not access the Fusion Application from the second user account.

Please advise.

Hi,

On OSX you can download and install Fusion 360 from the Apple Store. This will install to the Applications folder and should be accessible to all user accounts.

Be sure to uninstall the local version using LaunchPad.

Hi,

We have an installer that will set up Fusion 360 as a global application on your system.

You can download it here:   https://dl.appstreaming.autodesk.com/production/installers/Fusion%20360%20Admin%20Install.exe

For the other installs you can use Control Panel to uninstall Fusion and then use the Fusion Cleaner tool to remove any additional files. The cleaner tool can be found here.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kevin,

I downloaded but the global application and the cleaner before I noticed there were .exe files. Might edit the text "We have an installer that will" to "We have a Windows only installer that will". Many of us in the Fusion Community are Mac users. But thanks for lettings us know this is still in the pipeline.

Hello,

there is still this issue as of now? Apparently so, since I discovered I don't see Fusion installed as non-admin user.

I will uninstall it from a buch of computers and reinstall it using the admin installer.

What happens if I create a new user after the installation? Will it be able to lauch Fusion?

Thank you in advance,

Andrea

This was so silly. I used multiple hours on this when I finally realized it’s supposed to be installed per user. I solved it by putting the install file on a fileshare and the students install the program easily by themeselves.
