Insert from Computer Broken

I have been trying to Insert Mesh or Insert Canvas, neither of which are working. It fails to open the computer dialog and then Fusion crashes. Windows 10 64-bit, I've tried clearing the cache, restarting Fusion, restarting PC, no change.

I've used these features before, but Fusion has updated at least twice since the last time.

Hi @zaphyrsolutions ,

Sorry to see that you're facing this problem.

When are you getting crash?

  • When you hit Insert Mesh/Insert Canvas or
  • When you select a file and select Open
    • If it's crashing while open, is it crashing for all the files?

Do you receive any crash error reports that then generates a crash report ID? If so can you pass on one of the IDs?

It doesn't crash immediately when I hit the insert button, but it never opens the dialog to let me select the file either.

When I select Insert Canvas, the online dialog comes up, I click the button lower left Insert From Computer, then it shows the planes and lets me select, but it never opens the dialog to let me select a file. After a minute or so, it crashes, no report window or crash report ID.

I also can't upload any file from my computer through the dialog, and even dragging into drop window, the file progress stalls and doesn't complete the upload. I've tried Insert DXF as well, but just like the others, no file dialog appears.

I really need this fixed ASAP, I can't use any of my reference files to do the work I need to do.

There's an old bug where if the last directory you saved or opened from no longer exists the dialogs don't show. This post has a fix.

Thanks @HughesTooling that was exactly what happened. The suggestion in that post fixed it.

Also note: In my case, I am using BitLocker(Windows Drive Encryption) on some of my auxiliary drives. When BitLocker is locked (ie. after a restart or before the drive has been initialized) Fusion acts as if the directory were deleted.
