Insert edge bug in form environment

I think this is a bug: when using the Insert edge tool on any closed shape in the form environment (say a box or sphere) the green preview shows the correct behavior, but when I commit the change extra edges are added between every edge pair in all 3 axis. For instance if I select a single edge on a simple box form with no symmetry and insert edge at the .5 location, single side, the green preview shows the correct placement of a single new edge, but when I commit a new edge appears between every pair of edges in all three axis.  If The location is a different value other than 0.5 multiple edges are inserted between every pair.  The result is the same whether a single edge or a loop is selected, though in both cases the preview is correct.

For a plane or an open cylinder the tool behaves correctly, but if I close the ends of the cylinder it again adds extra edges.  There is no symmetry turned on for these objects.

I think that this might be because you have "Exact" chosen as the Insertion Mode.

This setting guarantees no shape changes from inserting an edge.  Try "Simple" for this setting.  The shape will change, but topologically, it will do what you ask:
