IMPORT/MODIFY STL

A COUPLE OF TIMES I HAVE TRIED TO IMPORT AN STL FILE TO MODIFY IT. I GET TO A POINT WHERE I CAN GO NO FURTHER. I AM USING THE HOBBYIST VERSION OF FUSION 360. IS THAT THE PROBLEM?

I was mostly interested in the if you created the geometry and what software.

It doesn't sound to me like you created the geometry (it is poor quality).

No, I did not. And that doesn't surprise me. I really appreciate your help, but don't kill yourself with this.

@Dmpanhead

Stl is perhaps the worst existing format for 3D geometry editing as it is limited to faceted planar triangles - no curve, not one - only tiny straight lines to sort of represent curves.

Now for what it is, there is no reason that it can't be quality, but it is almost always rubbish because the original designer doesn't understand geometry.

I started to reverse engineer this to create proper geometry - but it isn't even located with symmetry about the Origin.

I recommend that you:

1. Become proficient with modeling native in Fusion, then -

2. Revisit this topic of editing stl in Fusion (it isn't all bad and useful knowledge in some cases).
