I find it incredible that you can't print large 1-1 drawings

Does anyone else find it absurd that a sophisticated program such as Fusion 360 can't print 1-to-1 drawings that are larger than a single piece of paper? Why would it not simply print as many pages as necessary, so we can tape them together and create a complete drawing? Am I off-base here?

You can do this...  In Fusion 360, save your drawing out as a PDF.

Then, when you go to print the PDF, click on the Poster icon in the print dialog and make sure the Tile Scale is set to 100%.  You can also turn on Cut Marks if you want.

Ahh, gotcha. If that's the case, I'm going to purchase right now! The free version doesn't make that clear, so I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out whether we should continue to purchase or not. 

Just to be clear, with this option, we can print a 50" model over 8 differnt sheets of paper and then tape them together?

This isn't really a Fusion 360 question as much as it is a PDF Printing question.  In Fusion 360, you can export out a drawing as a PDF.

Then, when I use Adobe Acrobat to open the PDF, when I print, it gives me the option to print as Poster.

I have done this multiple times with FliteTest airplane designs where you print them 1:1 and tape the pages together to cut the plans out of 24x36 foamboard.  🙂

But it also depends on whether Fusion 360 will export the part of the project that does NOT fit on the white paper in the “drawing” mode.

To make a 50” model 1:1, Fusion 360 will only show a small portion of the model on the white paper in “drawing” mode.

So... when we go to Export to PDF, does Fusion 360 only export the portion of it that fits on that white paper background in drawing mode? Or does it export everything (even the parts that go past the white, into the grey)?

Take this image as an example.

See the arrows? Because the model is so large, it extends past the white area of the drawing.

Will the parts NOT in the white (where the areas are pointing), be exported?

And if not, how do you create 1:1 print-outs with huge models that extend PAST the white?

If Fusion 360 only exports what is within the white drawing background, then you will have a PDF that is missing both the left and right side of your model (the parts with the arrows).

PDF is a postscript format, meaning it only shows what is within a page boundary. It does not matter if the projection of the model rests outside the drawing sheet, the PDF format crops to the specified page boundary.

Since Fusion can deliver a 1:1 projection but is not a full-fledge vector or raster editing application then the problem, as I understand it, lays in post-production. You just want to print across multiple sheets because the projection does not fit on a single page.

If you want something of a 1:1 ratio for poster printing then use either DWG or SVG for printing with another application. 

If you go with a DWG export, then you might want to use an AUTOCAD plugin like Skleyka  or manual print selected regions one page at a time

If you go with a DXF export, then you might want to convert it to SVG and then print that using a vector editor that does tile printing. (Alternatively, still, there are  programs like Tile Print )

You can change the sheet size.  Beyond that you can scale your view.

Are you aware if it's possible to fit 50" or larger models in any of the sheet sizes currently in the program?

Or is the best option to scale down to 1:10 with Fusion 360, export, and then try to 10x the size in a PDF program to get back to 1:1?
