how to un-nest one component from its "mother"

I have a project where one component was inadvertently nested inside another component. I have tried dragging the "child" component out in the browser, but it doesn't budge. Separate, but related, question: why do nested components exist? what is their advantage?

One way would be Copy then Paste New then delete the original. As for sub components, they are useful for subassemblies.

Thanks Mark. That works. After I did that I saw that a "body" had been left behind in the old component. So, I copied and pasted that body to the new (independent) component and that also worked. Finally, I then saw that I still had some wayward left behind sketches. For some reason, I was able to drag them to the appropriate component.

Do you have component colour cycling enabled? It usually give you a clue you're using the wrong component because when you extrude it's the wrong colour, but there are only about 10 colours so not foolproof!
