How to break associations with Patterned Components

Hi

I have a problem with patterned components. Essentially my model has a number of components that are patterned which I now want to independently modify, however a change to one component always affects the other and so forth. How can I stop this?

Your help would be greatly appreciated, I have looked all over the forum and although I have found others with the same problem, I am yet to find a reasonable solution. Thanks

I don't see a Mirror Component in your timeline.  If you actually use Mirror Component, you can definitely modify the mirror copy or the original downstream of the mirror:

Hi Jeff

The problem doesn't seem to exist with mirrored components, only Patterned Components! In my model the grey component is patterned via a circular pattern.

As a work around I could mirror it, but this would be a real pain as it would break much of my design tree. Also, within the context of my model, a pattern works better (the Rhino head is a logo and shouldn't be mirrored), so would prefer to stick with patterning.

It seems very strange that the association is not breakable, and also that it continues to affect the timeline for past events.

Hi,

this would be one way:
1. create your circular pattern
2. copy the component to be edited and paste it back in (no move) via "paste new"
3. hide the linked pattern instance
4. edit the newly pasted component

Thanks Günther, I will use that workaround.

It seems like a prime area for the Autodesk team to fix, I can't fathom how it would be useful as it is. Hopefully it can get bumped up the list.

Thanks again.

Here is another process to break one or more components from a pattern so you can independently edit it.
