How can I select faces with a window while hovering over another face?

I can select faces just fine when I start my window selection off the part.  But when I want to select them in the middle of a part (starting on a different face of the body) it won't let me.  How can I resolve this?

Selecting faces suddenly becomes very difficult.  I have to start OFF the part, drag the selection window tool over a larger area (hitting other faces), then go back and deselect the faces I don't want.

Please help!

In a parametric design, you cannot do this.  Click and drag is bound to Component Drag in a parametric design.  In a Direct Modeling design, there is a setting in the Select dropdown that will allow you to disable Component Drag, but that is not available in a Parametric design.

Could you please elaborate as to why this is? Is it just easier to program this functionality when you don't have to respect the timeline of features? It seems like this functionality has nothing that would conflict with the capture of history. @jeff_strater

that is an old post.  This change has subsequently been implemented.  The "Component Drag" checkbox is now available in a parametric design as well as a DM design:

in the screencast, unfortunately, the task bar covers part of the timeline, but it is there...

Dang. I did NOT know that setting existed. I wasn't able to find any setting for it so I think Fusion may not have implemented it yet. Perhaps you installed this workaround? https://github.com/thomasa88/NoComponentDrag

no, this has been implemented in the core product itself.  What version of Fusion do you have?  This is the current version:

My god! Thank you!!! It turns out it hasn't been auto updating. Just now checked the notification.

My version was 2.0.10806. 😐

I apologize for causing you this trouble and I've really thankful for your help, Jeff.
