Fusion URL and App versions don't match

My students and I use both the Fusion URL and App versions.  We have found that the Fusion URL software has abysmal performance this year so we have been doing as much work in the Fusion App as possible (it has much better performance).  However, the App version of software becomes outdated (compared to the URL version which is constantly at the latest version) the day after it is updated.  I would like to be able to go in and update the App version whenever we want because, most times we don't see an upgrade "pending", but yet we get an error message saying "this version needs to be in updated software".  I to be able to update the App version whenever I want, but I cannot.  Does anyone know how to do this without needing an administrator?

There are two methods for installing Fusion:

  1. A user-level installation that streams updates automatically from our servers
  2. A system-level installation (thereby requiring admin permissions) which received updates manually pushed by your IT administrator

It sounds like you might have the second method in play. Your admin is able to script the Fusion update process for admin installs - this would be the recommended approach.

Alternately, individual users can install their own copy of the first method. The risk with this approach is, whenever an update releases each individual installation will need to connect to our servers to download and process the exact same data multiple times. It's a pretty inefficient use of your network's bandwidth in larger campus-wide deployments, but may end up being more convenient for classroom-sized labs.
