Fusion 360 Opens Once After Opening

Anonymous
Not applicable

My Fusion 360 will only open once after installing it.  In order for it to open again I have to uninstall it and reinstall again.

iMac, 10.15.5, zero pending updates (apps or hardware)

Any suggestions? Any requests for screen grabs will have to include where to find that information as I am not very Mac literate.

Thanks all,

Hughie

Hi,

Glad to help.

When you re-install Fusion, do you perform the clean-uninstall steps?  Depending on your answer I'll have more follow-up advice and a few more questions.

Thanks,

I did use the uninstall link in launchpad to uninstall it, but knew nothing about the “clean” uninstall after.

After a clean uninstall, does the problem go away?

Before that, can you describe what you were doing to see the problem?

It sounds like these steps were taken, but I need to know so I can reproduce the problem if at all possible as part of a bug investigation.

Did you previously:

1. Install Fusion 360

2. At the end of installation Fusion opens up

3. Shut down Fusion with or without logging out?

After that, what happened when you tried to open Fusion?

I installed it and it worked just fine for a bit. No problems what so ever. Then the iMac updated itself and it wouldn’t open any more.

I then uninstalled it, and reinstalled it and it would open at the end of the installation. Once I close it or log out of the user profile it will not reopen unless I uninstall and reinstall. When I click the icon in the taskbar it bounces but does nothing other than that.

I’m not certain this is what you’re asking, but when I close the program I don’t log out of it so I don’t have to put my email and password in the next time I would use it (if it would work right).

When you install Fusion, do you do anything special after, like placing the icon on your dock?

Have you tried starting Fusion from launchpad after it fails to start the second time, or are you starting from the dock?

I am having the same issue

I have to reinstall Fusion 360 every time that I want to use it.

I need to fix this before I have to teach it in class and understand how in case my students face this as well.

I tried:

Clean install

Building a new computer  (can you get a cleaner install than that?)

updating graphics driver (reinstalled again

changing graphics card manufacturer (reinstalled again)

New SSD (reinstalled again)

AMD 3.79 GHz Ryzen 9  3900x 12 core, 32GB DDR4 RAM, Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 8GB 256-Bit GDDR6

Windows 10 pro, version 2004 updated 7/20/2020 Reinstalled again

Windows experience pack 120.2202.130.0

@mheldt

This is interesting. Up to now all the reports of this have been on mac.

Obviously, many thousands of customers are using Fusion every day without going thru this. I'd like to work with you to figure this out and prevent it from happening to you or other users, including your students.

BTW, I would be astounded if your students had this trouble, considering how rare it is. That is, unless you are installing in a unique way and you direct your students to install in that same unique way.

Can you describe how you install Fusion?

  • For instance, is only one computer involved, or are you installing on a network?
  • Since you mention teaching, are you using 1 or 2?
  • EDU_lab_installation.png

Thanks,

I am currently using the individual license version.  I am not teaching the students any version unless I am confident they will be able to use a non-school copy when they leave.

I would prefer to keep the conversation on the public forum but if you send me your phone number in a PM I can call. I do not have any access to your personal information like that.

Click on my name and a small menu box appears, use "send private message".

I did put, and use, an icon on my dock but that and the launchpad icon both stopped working at the same time.

Now when I need it I uninstall it via the uninstall icon in launchpad and then click the install file I saved onto my desktop since I need to use it so much.

Im certain that this issue is caused by something in the Catalina update. The instant I installed that F360 wouldn’t open the very next time I tried to use it.

Are you running dual-monitors?

3 Monitors. I also tried unplugging and running just 2.
I also have tried 2 different motherboards and 3 graphics cards
one complete system rebuild with a new drive and clean OS

New motherboard arrives today. Will try disabling sound drivers trick.
I expect it to be monday before system reassembly is complete.

For my spring classes, we issued PC laptops for all the Mac users. So,
Mac fixes are handy for us PC users too since there are many Mac users
amongst our students.

@mheldt The question was for @Anonymous . Are your students facing problems that you haven't mentioned yet? The issue you are having is not the same as the mac users, and it's also not an issue that I know of any other user facing. It appears to be associated with your hardware setup. So please let us know what your concerns are for your students, since they have laptops different from your computer.

Also, the audio driver problem is very specific to Nahimic drivers and multiple monitors.

@Anonymous Thanks for the response. Just to be clear:

1. You install Fusion without any special intervention, as an admin user on this machine.

2. The icon that exists in the launchpad fails to start Fusion after you have installed, and shut down Fusion, without taking any other special steps.

3. You have tried the "clean uninstall" steps listed here.

If that is all true, can you please do this:

1. Do a clean uninstall

2. Install Fusion again

3. Gather diagnostic logs to support the bug report I need to log for your case.

My account was the first on the computer so it’s definitely an admin account.

when I uninstall the program the folders that I need to remove for a manual clean uninstall are no longer there. I can’t use the “programmed” clean uninstall, it doesn’t work when I try to use it.

The logs you’d like for me to send I have no idea where they are and have no idea how to get them.
