Fusion 360 - Mac: Orbit using trackpad no longer working

Hi

The Orbit function using the macbook's trackpad & Shift key is gone.

it used to be "on / off" for some while, usually when the app had been running for a longer time the orbit function using the trackpad two finger-gesture & Shift stopped working.  then restarting Fusion usually solved the issue.

But since this morning (latest update) it is gone alltogether as it seems.

This is quite annoying as that was the fastest and most convenient way to orbit around your model.

any chance to get it back working?

thanks

Thanks for your comments Phil - greatly appreciated. I'd like to point out a few things that will certainly impact others trying to find solutions to this problem... The link you provided to autodesk app store contains two links that are misleading.

1) The "Install Instructions" takes you to the github and then this page tells you to install latest version .13 (different from the .12 download link on the autodesk page)
This .13 version apparently has crash problems for some people according to Phil so that is very good to know in case you experience these symptoms (FWIW I never crash and I use Fusion 360 almost everyday using this .13 - when I say never I'm excluding the rare times when I ask fusion to calculate something ridiculous and have to force quit. Fusion is awesome and very stable in my view even with this .13)
This .13 also seems to have been "signed" (at least it doesn't complain when I "+" add-in and point to the folder with the .13 dylib that can be downloaded from that github location that we aren't suppose to use ;). The download from the autodesk app store (.12) is very hard to get installed and fails in several places. I'm sure it can be made to work with some googling but .13 seems to not have these issues.

2) The other misleading link on the autodesk page is "macOS Catalina is not supported". I'm not sure why this is here or what it means exactly. I don't think there's support for any of this trackpad add-in other than the support here when is actually pretty good. So it implies that it can't be made to work on Catalina and we know this just isn't true.

Bottom line is the autodesk app store page should get updated so it doesn't send people on wild goose chases or worse... leave them not using fusion with mac trackpad because that would be a shame as it's one of the very best computing experiences available. Just give a summation of the best known information to-date all in one place. Then sending anyone to this link is a very reasonable response.

@Focus54 The issue related to this ticket occurs both with and without NativeTrackpad on my machine.

I've written the author of that app asking for a revision as you have explained.

You can also write them, their email is info@pravdomil.com

I'm not sure Autodesk can force them to change their page, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Hello, I'm the author of that plugin.

The plugin is no longer maintained, I have deleted it, so that I won't break things.

I hope that Autodesk will merge it anytime soon (source code is still available on GitHub).

I want to provide another quick data point - I resumed using Fusion 360 after not using it for several months (I'm a casual "Personal Use" user, I mainly use it with my kids to help them learn 3D modeling and make cool stuff) and found that Pan & Zoom weren't working for me anymore.

After reading one of the old messages in this thread, I got it working again.  The solution was: click on the "Autodesk Fusion 360" icon in the dock, while the application is already running.  I have NO idea why this would do the trick, but I'm back in business now after quite an extended period of trying other random stuff like quitting F360 and fiddling with the orbit cube.

I'm on a MacBook Pro 15-inch 1019, running MacOS Catalina 10.15.7, Fusion 360 version 2.0.10148, and I do NOT have the extra trackpad plugin from GitHub installed.

Opening Quicktime via spotlight search sometimes fixes it for me.

- Time Magazine’s Person of the Year 2006
- Apple M1 Max rMBP A2485 // Latest MacOS // Latest Fusion
- Usually working off files uploaded to Fusion as: Step, STL, SLDPRT. If it matters ask me.

AUTODESK has added some built-in support for this now that seems to be working great for me on fresh mac and fusion 360 installs.

I'm using:

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021)

Monterey 12.6

Apple M1 chip

Works for me. Huge relief! Fusion was hardly useable without proper control. Thanks.
