Use case:

Create multiple 3D designs based on the same sketch. The sketch has some key dimensions set as user parameters. Each 3D design needs to customize some of those dimensions.

Current 'solution':

Include the design with the sketch ('parent' design) into the 3D designs ('children') and use the sketch. In order to change the dimensions in the child design, one needs to break the link with the parent design.

Problem/Requirements:

The current solution is akin to just making a copy of the parent design. Breaking the link means that updates in the 'master sketch' are lost in the children. Hence the feature request: being able to redefine/override user parameters in children WITHOUT BREAKING THE LINK with parent. Alternatively, to have another workflow where it is possible to have only 1 master copy of the original sketch where edits are performed but parameters are customizable in children.

It seems like a core feature for good reusability and deduplication of work, unless I'm missing an alternative workflow.

Many people seem to want to the same, as seen in the related post linked above.

The feature set you describe is called "Configurations" in many other CAD tools or "iParts" in Autodesk Inventor.

It is currently in development and 1st public release might be available by the end of next year.

@TrippyLighting Do you know if there is a feature ticket that can be tracked publicly for Configurations?

@TrippyLightingunfortunately Configurations does not solve this problem at all.

They only allow fixed presets of parameters, not using parameters of the current design to change parameters of the linked design.

Correct! In its current form it doesn't.

I believe the functionality would be part of "custom configurations". As I understand it, that is in development ...

It remains to be seen if the implementation then will address this request.
