Extend mitred 3d rectangular hollow section

Hi guys,

I have a mitred/chamfered 3d rectangular hollow section (well four sides actually) that i wish to extend by 100mm.

The push pull doesnt work...its trying to edit perpendicular to the mitre whereas i wish to simply lengthen the object.

I was designing a trolley however after constructing the legs and upper frame, i have decided to increase its perimeter dimensions by 100mm on all sides.

I have moved the members outwards the required distance perpendicular to opposite sides, however, i cannot reliably lengthen any of the rectangular rails.

Only the first rail was created as a sketch, all the others are copies of the front rail.

Also, the legs are rectangular array (pattern) of the first leg.

What is the method for extending the rails such that they meet nicely in the mitred corners?

see image attached

Here is what happens if i use the push/pull command and increase length by 100mm (it goes way further than the original 100mm i moved the front rail outwards visible in the image below...so its measuring the 100 perpendicular distance to the mitre)

If i instead set distance to 50mm, it comes up short...as seen in image below (one can clearly see that the problem is because it is push/pulling from the center of the face but also perpendicular to the mitre)

Undo your recent attempt to fix it, to the point where it was all good before you changed your mind,

Go back in timeline, edit 1st feature that made the part - add 100mm to it,

go forward to end of timeline,

should work out as intended.

If not attach the file...

Might help....

Hi,

If you have extruded the struts from a profile sketch, you can change the lenght of this feature in the timeline by right-clicking > EDIT.
But you can't see that from your screenshot.
Please share your design for a review.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

hi guys,
i decided the easiest thing to do was redraw the rails from scratch.

I find it a bit confusing and therefore frustrating that one cannot simply push/pull the mitred face along the length of the tubing...it doesnt work the way i thought it would.

Hi,

If you had uploaded the file as @davebYYPCU  and @TheCADWhisperer recommended, you would have gotten specific advice on how to solve the problem and avoid it.

Exactly why you should have Attached your file here.

I will wager that there is a technique that you would agree is simple, robust and adaptable.
