Excessive Memory Usage - Fusion 360 (Pan, Orbit, Zoom etc extremely slow)

Hi,

There seems to be an issue with my Fusion since the last update. It worked just fine a while ago, but now it runs extremely slow, especially when orbiting or zooming. The memory usage for Fusion is extremely high (~1800MB - ~50% of memory), even though on the same laptop it worked very smooth before.

I re-installed the program, I updated all the drivers, I followed all the steps in the threads below, but nothing seems to solve my issue.

I use:

Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 I7 - 1065G7 @1.3 GHz 1.5 GHz - 16GB Ram

I'll attach here 2 snips: the graphic diagnostic and the processes in task manager

Help is appreciated. Thanks

How about adding a screengrab of your design or better still can you share the design here? Export as an f3d and attach.

I have the exact same problem since the update.  The same manufacturing file that ran smoothly prior to the update is now constantly freezing and spiking over 10GB of RAM usage.  I reinstalled a bit ago and nothing has changed.

I'm have the same issues. I have a very simple model of a 24"x24" cnc table that i'm trying to array and grid on to and fusions taking almost 10 min just to array.

Hi,

From your graphics diagnostic I can see you are using Intel chip graphics that have 128 mb memory. This is very low for a CAD application. I'm surprised you haven't noticed more performance issues by now.

To put it into perspective, that is .128 GB (1/8 of a GB), and the recommended Fusion graphics card is much higher.

Also it's not clear when your drivers have been updated.

A few things you could try:

1. Be sure Fusion opens on the primary monitor for your machine.

2. Update the graphics drivers if that's possible.

3. Tick the box in the graphics diagnostic tool to "limit graphics effects".

Also, if you please could share one of your designs so it can be tested on another computer. If the same things happen on my test machines I would need to log a bug for it.

If you can share this design it would help.

For what it's worth, I'm running with 16GB of RAM and when I'm working with my current project Fusion is using between 4GB -12GB, which is crazy. When I close Fusion my system uses around 2GB so I'm nearly maxing out with Fusion.

I've seen a couple of posts where Fusion was set to run in compatibility mode. The symptoms were a bit different but might be worth checking. In both cases Fusion was installed on Win 10 but Fusion's short cut was set to run in compatibility mode as Windows 8.

Thanks for the details. I'm still wondering what kind of designs you are all working with here. It sounds like the comments are about particular designs.

Is this the same with a blank empty file just after starting Fusion?

Here's a video of fusion running on my pc this was the only fusion file open and I only had two chrome tabs open. The sketch is the only thing in there and it is 36"x48" it took 17 seconds just to select it.

Fusion has never worked well with sketches like that. There are thousands of points, lines and arcs for the profile manager to keep track of. First thing you should do is turn off profile display in the sketch palette, that should help a lot. This prevents Fusion from thinking about the profile (the blue stuff between the lines).

Can you share the design?

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your help.

I've attached herewith my .f3d design. It has only three features, so I don't think the issue is from the design.

It was such a struggle to even get there,  as the program was extremely slow and fragmented from the initial sketch, basically impossible to work with.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Phil,

I understand what you're saying, but I ran the program on the same laptop before and it worked very smooth, even with more complex designs or renderings.

I already tried all your suggestions and nothing seemed to fix my issue.

My design basically has only three features, as I've just started it. To mention that the program was extremely slow and fragmented even from the initial sketch. Anyway I'll attached herewith my design so you can give it a shot on your machine.

Thank you for your help.

@mihaicatalinr  Thanks for the design. It operates smoothly on my machine.

I looked up your graphics drivers and found they were released on September 16. This closely coincides with the start of these problems. It also shows you are using DX9. If you made no other changes like adding monitors, or new monitors, then we should focus on the Intel drivers.

One thing you could try is using DX11. Open Preferences and find the graphics driver dropdown on the default preferences page (near the top). Switch this to DX11 and restart Fusion 360.

Please let me know if that solves the issue.

@Phil.E  I opened @mihaicatalinr 's design on my old PC running win 7 and see a bad lag when I start to orbit. I have mouse set to Solidworks so orbit is hold middle mouse button down and drag. Now I know you're going to comment on using Win 7 but it was definitely working fine a couple of weeks ago before the 2.0.28950 update so something has changed with that update. There have been a few posts about the stutter while orbiting and panning from people using Win 10 so I don't think what I'm seeing is down to Win 7.

Something else odd is if I just use the scroll wheel, zoom is instant but if I hold the shift key down and drag with the middle mouse button there the same pause before anything happens. So not sure if it has anything to do with pressing buttons and moving the mouse. Someone mention the problem didn't show using a Space Mouse.

Here's another thread with the same problem and I've seen at least one more.

Mark

Edit, Should have mentioned the win 7 PC has a deadicated NVidia graphics card.

Hi Phil,

It seems like September 16th was the date when it stopped working, as I used it a few days before that date and it ran just fine. Hence the issue should be caused by the Intel drivers' update.

Also I did not make other changes like adding others monitors etc. and in relation to the GPU Driver, it was set on DX11 before I noticed the issue and I gave it a shot on DX9, as well, as I've seen this suggestion mentioned in one of the previous threads of your colleagues. Neither fixed my issue.

Thank you.
