ERROR: Importing from McMaster Carr hangs with "Downloading..."

Hello

I am trying to include parts from the McMaster Carr catalog and saving a step file from McMaster site results in "Downloading..." in lower right corner that never completes.

Note that

- I am on Windows 7 Pro

- Have restarted Fusion 360

- Have tried multiple parts

- Have tried both Step and file formats

- Have tried creating a brand new design and tried adding the part as the first step

...All results in a green "Downloading..."  indicator at the lower right of my screen that does not go away.  The pc is not frozen and I can use the mouse and go to other applications.  It's just Fusion 360 that is stuck at this point.

I have made a screencast to illustrate what I am doing and what I see.  Any help would be appreciated so I can import these parts.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

I wonder if there is a network issue going on when you are trying to download the file. Just to check - are you on a home network, or are there restrictions on the network you are using (i.e. an office or a school network). Also, can you try inserting a part, and then going to the Help menu and selecting Diagnostic Log files. This will zip them up and can you attach the zip file to a post so I can take a peek.

Thanks,

Hi James and thanks for your reply.

I should've mentioned in my original post that I also disabled the Windows firewall and got the same result.  I am on a home network to answer your question.  Also, I notice that I *AM* able to import parts when I use 'INSERT->Insert Manufacturer part'....but 'INSERT->Insert McMaster-Carr Component' does not work currently.

...attaching the diagnostic files per your request.

I'll wait for your reply and thanks again for the help.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for sharing those. So I do notice one difference in our logs when trying to import the same part. For instance mine says:

20170505T104453 I The McMaster part is being downloaded to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\Neutron\91251A051_BLACK-OXIDE ALLOY STEEL SOCKET HEAD CAP SCREW.STEP

Whereas yours says (it's okay that it starts at Temp on yours - it is referring to the same directory):

20170504T162040 I The McMaster part is being downloaded to d:\Temp\Neutron\91251A051_BLACK-OXIDE ALLOY STEEL SOCKET HEAD CAP SCREW.STEP

For some reason, your part is trying to get downloaded to your D:/ drive in a folder location that I believe is supposed to be in the C:/ drive. Do you have a D:/ drive enabled? If so, does this folder location exist? It will be in your local app data in the temp folder. If it exists do you have full access to it. I'll do a bit more digging, but I do see this error in the next line of your log:

20170504T162054 I Analytics: command-name: InsertMcMasterCarrComponentCommand, type: Cancelled, value: 0

As you can see, it says that it was cancelled. If the path in D:/ does not exist or it cannot be reached, this might be why. Let me do a little digging to see why this might be.

Thanks,

Hi James

The 'Neutron' folder does exist, but there is not a '91251A051_BLACK-OXIDE ALLOY STEEL SOCKET HEAD CAP SCREW.STEP' file in it.  There is a '91251A051_BLACK-OXIDE ALLOY STEEL SOCKET HEAD CAP SCREW.SLDPRT' file I see.  Note that my %TMP% and %TEMP% variables on my system do indeed point to D:\Temp and it is a valid drive on this system.  I have attached a screenshot to show you.

Since you pointed this out, I renamed the "Neutron" folder and tried again... The Neutron folder was recreated on my system with some folders in it but the same result/error occurred.  So, 'Neutron' is a part of Fusion 360 then, right?

Also, I have fully rebooted my pc and that didn't change the behavior either.

Thanks again for your help and I'll look for your reply.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you email me at [email protected]? I'd love to set up an offline session so we can go over this in a bit more detail.
