Drawing Reference Design file Changed

I have been working on an assembly. Created a drawing from that assembly. Then I've added a sheet to do another component drawing but when I try to put in the base view it now references a different design file. One of just one of the components in the assembly. Help!

From your description, this is what you want.  You want the Assembly Drawing on sheet one, and the individual components of the assembly on following sheets.  So what is the problem or did you describe your problem wrong?

Yeah, so if we say my assembly is a car. Using that assembly model, I've created a drawing. First sheet, I put in a base view of that car assembly model. Then added a second sheet. Now when I go to insert a base view into that second sheet, the design file only uses the model of the wheel. And if I try to add another sheet, I try to put in a base view in that sheet, it still only lets me use the model of the wheel. Typical, when I make a drawing off an assembly model, it has always referenced the assembly model (in this case the assembly model of the car) For all design references, when I put in that base view. Then I just go in and select what I want in the drawing sheet. Hopefully that makes sense. After the first sheet in the drawing, it only references a specific component in that model.

I think you are missing the "Contents" selection in the Create Drawing dialog box.  I would use the Select option and pick the Component from the Browser for the particular drawing you need.  Each drawing sheet you select a different component of the assembly.

Edit: Using this method you can also group different components of your assembly on a single sheet, if they will fit along with your annotation.

If this answers your question, please select the "Accept Solution" icon on my post. If you have further questions, please ask.

Maybe my skills with it are too basic. I don't really understand. When I create the drawing from the assembly, I select "only visible" in the "Contents" drop down, in the Create Drawing dialog box. This populates my first drawing sheet with the assembly model. Then I add a sheet to start my components drawings. (Typically I would then insert the assembly model and use the "browser" to select my components) When I try to now insert a "base view" the "Drawing File" dialog box pops up, and under the "Reference" drop down, the "Design File" is now a component model, instead of the assembly model I used to create the drawing originally. So now using the "Browser" drop down, I can only see components in the component model not the assembly model. i.e. I can only access components in the Wheel Model instead of all the Car Assembly Model.

Anyways, it seems to have magically fixed itself. Thanks for trying to help.
