Do I have the right system requirements?

Hi,

I have downloaded and installed Fusion 360 ( I assume the latest model - trial version)  for a class last week.

But last night in class it kept crashing as I was asking it to crunch a lot of GIS data and move a mesh object.

Can you tell me if my system has what it takes?  Should I get more RAM or update the graphics card?  What ram or card would you recommend?

I'm using an older MacBook Pro (early 2011) that we rebuilt - we removed the fan drive and put in a solid state drive with lots of memory.

I'm running macOS Seirra version 10.12.5

This is what I have:

Hardware Overview:

  Model Name: MacBook Pro

  Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,1

  Processor Name: Intel Core i5

  Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 2

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

  L3 Cache: 3 MB

  Memory: 10 GB

  Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B32

  SMC Version (system): 1.68f99

  Serial Number (system): C02GC1PLDRJ7

  Hardware UUID: 02D5A76A-D079-541D-8862-C7B6F89C1F8B

  Sudden Motion Sensor:

  State: Enabled

I checked the graphics diagnostic in Fusion 360 and clicked the box to optimize performance.

Please advise?

Thank you,

Megan

Which graphics card do you have in that system? If its the Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384 MB of video memory, that card is underpowered to meet the system requirements for Fusion 360. It's really best if you can exceed the system requirements (512 MB of Video memory).

I hope that is helpful, even if it is bad news. Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Fusion community!

From your hardware overview, it seems like your machine should be more than capable of handling Fusion 360. However, working with large meshes can sometimes cause some slow downs and some hanging of Fusion, but in most cases it will recover if you just let it think for a bit. It's a little difficult to say what was causing those crashes without being able to see the actual mesh though.

NOTE: I just did a quick search through our crash error report database on your email address, but I was unable to find any submitted reports. Is Fusion generating a crash error report or is it just perpetually locked up, forcing you to Force Quit the application? Are you submitting the reports under a different email address? If so, would you mind sharing that email address with me? In some cases where Fusion crashes, there may be a bug logged in our systems to capture this and sometimes those reports can provide some clues as to why this is happening and how to work around this.

As a side note, you can always cross-check your machine specs with the basic system requirements for Fusion 360 and beef up your computer accordingly.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to hearing back from you!

Cheers,
