Difficult to move parts in Browser

Hello, I have some assemblies with lots of parts, and want to rearrange the order of parts in browser to be more logical. I can grab parts and move them, but I cant scroll up and down the browser tree using the scroll wheel while the cursor is "holding" a part, so of course I have to hold the cursor at the top or bottom of the browser to "scroll" up and down.

The problem is that this doesnt seem to work well, like in other programs. There is no "space" i can hold the part to move up and down, I kind of have to wiggle the cursor around in a tiny tiny sliver of space at the top or bottom to keep scrolling. Very annoying when you have to reorder ~100 parts.

Is this really intended?

Hi,

This is expected behavior in Fusion 360, although not very user-friendly.

When you drag components in the Browser, the drag operation captures the mouse input, so the scroll wheel won’t work. The only available scrolling method is the auto-scroll when hovering near the top or bottom of the Browser, but the active area is quite small and not very responsive — which becomes a problem in large assemblies.

So this is more of a UI limitation than a bug.

Workarounds:

  • Use “Move to Folder” instead of dragging across long distances
  • Collapse unrelated parts of the Browser to reduce scrolling
  • Move components in smaller steps rather than one long drag

Also keep in mind that Browser order in Fusion 360 is mainly organizational and does not affect model behavior, so structuring components with folders is usually a more efficient approach than manual reordering.
