Different key commands for laptop vs. desktop?

I have discovered that my keycommands seem to live in the cloud.  That's mostly really cool!

But my laptop does not have a middle mouse button, so I need different navigation settings for it.  Now I have to switch back  (and forth) every time.    That's twice a day at present.

Any hope for a 'local' option on a keystroke as part of the upcoming keycommand rework?

Maybe this website will be of assistance to you. Adding the "Middle Button" to your laptop touchpad may be the best solution.

yes, both are windows.  My software (dell) will respond to a middle click, but not a drag.

That said, I realize I would happily forgoe middle mouse on both machines, when such customization is available.    It's awkward to me even on a normal mouse. 

Unfortunately, all the navigation options currently available seem to involve a middle click and drag.  If there's an exception (I haven't tracked down the info on all the other CAD programs yet) I'd love to know...  I come from sketchup, and those commands are not available.

to go further... I'm left-handed, so I customized all the navigation for sketchup to be under the right hand.  O for orbit, K for pan, B for zoom window, N for zoom, M for Move, U for extrude, and ; for zoom extents.  Then my right hand stays on the part of the keyboard it knows, and my left hand can stay on the mouse.  very fast!!  Fusion feels so slow by comparison.  I'd love to use these same ergonomics (and muscle memory!).

Under your Preferences you can set your Pan, Zoom, Orbit to Inventor and you can use the keyboard function keys and your mouse left button hold and drag, no middle button required.  F2 = PAN, F3=Zoom, F4=Orbit.

Just to be clear are you using a mouse or the built in trackpad and buttons on your laptop?

Hmmm.  That would be cooler if the F-keys on my laptop didn't require the Fn key.  And as a touch typist, I'm not good with numbers, never mind F-keys.....  but thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind.

I don't use a mouse with the laptop.  I like my trackpad, and I've done a ton of sketchup on it....  But I've been given to understand elsewhere in these forums that navigation key-commands are in the pipeline, so I can make do for now with what is available.  I don't want to beat a soon-to-be-resurrected horse 😉

I need to be very clear here: 

• Yes we know the customer desire for more flexibility in custom keys, and many other issues that require another big effort to address all this.
• No we are not currently working on it. It is a backlog item, or rather a giant set of backlog items that are all related to this.
• Yes anything is possible in the future, but no do not wait for any forthcoming improvement at this point.

Apologies if any mention of this caused you to think it was a current project under development, it is not. It is better thought of as a well understood set of customer requests.

Okay, yes.  In another forum someone did say that it would be in the next update.  I guess they were confused.  Good to know, I will make do with what is here.
