Data panel black - and cannot fix it

Using Fusion 360 Personal, the Data Panel went black a few months ago, but reinstalled drivers and it came back. But it is black again.

I have tried all recommendations I can find:

  • Reinstalled Fusion
  • Updated graphics drivers (again)
  • Forced resync of NsCloudBrowserCache.dat
  • Tried all four options on graphics driver in Preferences
  • Followed Oct 11, 2024 instructions on how to configure NVIDIA for high performance graphics
  • and ensured app is running in Windows High Performance mode
  • ... can't remember what else, but still black data panel

SYSTEM

  • Desktop PC (built for 4k video work)
  • Windows 10 Pro  10.0.19042
  • Intel Core i9-7900X 3.3GHz
  • 64GB RAM
  • NVIDIA Geforce GTX Ti  3840 x 2160 x 60

Worth adding that the data panel does appear (unpopulated) very briefly sometimes, but instantly goes black.

I wonder if anyone can suggest anything else I can try.

Thanks

@emteepeeess We apologize for this experience. I have posted about 6 solutions to try for. Please let us know if any of this helped.

  1. Update graphics drivers (uninstall and reinstall too)
  2. Update to version 2.0.20494
  3. Turning Fusion manually into offline, waiting for a few seconds and then turning it back online
  4. Manual reset of DP
  5. Preferences - Graphics > Display > High-resolution canvas graphics on High DPI displays - Uncheck
  6. Create a new design and save - In some instances this has triggered the data panel to update and then work normally

Many thanks for the very prompt reply - however:

  1. Update graphics drivers (uninstall and reinstall too)
Already did this - made no difference
  2. Update to version 2.0.20494
That's the version I'm already running
  3. Turning Fusion manually into offline, waiting for a few seconds and then turning it back online
Hadn't tried that - but did so and it made no difference
  4. Manual reset of DP
Already did that - made no difference
  5. Preferences - Graphics > Display > High-resolution canvas graphics on High DPI displays - Uncheck
Hadn't done this - but tried it and it didn't work
  6. Create a new design and save - In some instances this has triggered the data panel to update and then work
    normally
Hadn't done this - but tried it and it didn't work

Problem is that I cannot see which documents are editable and change their status - unless there's a workaround

Thanks - but doesn't that make all files uneditable? Since I cannot see them in the data panel, I can't then make them editable - although I can still open them using File>Open

@emteepeeess Well, its not like they are uneditable. It now gives you fresh set of 10 documents.

The instructions are shown below. It says that the editable document list should be empty after doing this - fine.

But then "make a single document editable" - how do I do that if I don't have access to the data panel?

I don't want to take the risk and end up with being unable to edit anything.

I'm very frustrated now 😞

  2. Launch Fusion
  3. Editable Document list should be empty
  4. Mark a single document editable
  5. Go Online

"I don't want to take the risk and end up with being unable to edit anything."

None of the workflow will lead into this. The only time that this comes into play is when you do not have a license.

Reading through the post again, I don't think this article that I sent would work for you since you. If you don't mind can you post an image of how the data panel appears for you?

IF you go into Preference - General - there is an option "Show home tab at start up" . Can you check that and start using the home tab for what you would do in data panel? At least until we figure out what is happening on your machine?

Thanks - I've attached images of the screen with the black data panel AND the home tab which you will see shows a black screen (in fact the home tab icon appears greyed out on the image with the black data panel).

@emteepeeess I would have expected the home tab to show up. Tis is the first we are seeing the home tab able blocked out. Couple more tests to try out:

1. IF you disconnect internet and start Fusion does it make any difference?
2. Check out this article for some other options to try out.

I tried running with no internet - still black data panel and home tab.

I have tried all those steps in that article, at least twice.

However, this morning I decided to uninstall again, but this time clear out all signs of Autodesk products that I could find. Then reinstalled. Note that I am not using integrated graphics - I'm using a dedicated NVIDIA card (GeForce GTX 1070 Ti) - motherboard graphics have always been disabled.

When Fusion 360 started, it used my previously set preference to start with the Home tab - and it was there. I felt that this was promising. But next time I ran it, data panel and home tab were black.

Since this was working only two weeks ago, I have trawled the system to see if there have been any updates that could impact this, but there are none.

I've looked at the log file, and there are two anomalies:

W: Cloud Libraries: No current hub!
E: ToolbarCustomizationDefinitions does not contain valid XML data.  [this looks suspicious]

Is there any further update on this?

I've had an email asking me if I got the answer I needed - no, not yet.

@emteepeeess Can you provide a couple more pieces of information?

1. If you go to task manager - performance tab - can you snapshot what you see tee in terms of number of cores?
2. Regarding the logs showing about no hubs found - can you direct message me your email ID used to register for Fusion? I can check in the backend to see about the hubs.
3. Maybe you already did this but can you try to login to Fusion team - https://login.autodesk360.com/login and does that log you in correctly?

Many thanks for that.

That link ( https://login.autodesk360.com/loginis not one I've seen before - so I hadn't logged into it.

Yes, I was able to log in fine with my email address and password. And, after a welcome screen (as though I'd never visited before), it showed me all my saved projects.

Then, on a hunch, I tried Fusion 360 again, and the data panel is back.

These were the same login credentials that I used after I reinstalled Fusion360.

I'll follow up with a direct message.

Thanks again

So could it be that Fusion 360 wasn't correctly logging me in??

@emteepeeess Its possible that Fusion was not logging you in correctly. Glad it is all working fine now.
