Critical Issue: Fusion 360 Search Fails to Find Existing Files

Hi Autodesk team,

I’ve been a long-time Fusion 360 subscriber with hundreds of designs stored in the cloud across various projects. I’m now encountering a critical issue that is severely impacting my workflow: the search function fails to return files, even when I enter an exact match of a file name that I can see in the data panel.

I understand (although am frustrated by) the inability to search files with underscores between words, but having files just not show up has cost me a hundred hours this year alone...

Details:

  • File is visible in the data panel under the correct project

  • File name includes the word “camera”

  • Search is set to All Data

  • No filters are active

  • I’ve verified spelling and tried both full and partial match queries

  • The file is not archived and was created directly within Fusion

  • Even after renaming the file, waiting, and re-searching, it still doesn’t appear

  • Web-based Fusion Team search yields inconsistent results as well, but it is MUCH more reliable.

SOMETIMES if I manually find the file, and leave it open for at least 15 minutes, it can be searched again. But it is seemingly random if it will show up next time I need it, months later.

This behavior makes it nearly impossible to manage a growing library of designs. I rely heavily on search for navigating my work, and this issue has reached the point of becoming a serious blocker.

System:

  • MacOS 15.3.2

  • Fusion 2601.1.29 arm64 [Native]

Please advise on how this can be resolved.

Thank you for your time.

Hi @MarhallT ,

Can you check if you are able to search files using HomeTab.

Link for HomeTab Overview.

Any hope of this being fixed?   My search has been nearly unusable for years.

Searching for an important document found 2 old copies over 6 months old but not the document I had just edited days ago.  Selected "All Data" says the same...  even selected the folder I know the file is in an it says the same thing.   I don't use any special characters in my file names, just alphanumeric.

Tried on a different computer (use the same account at home and work) but same issue. Tried searching ALL words in the name of the file.  But all searches return only two older versions of the file a I saved as backups over 6 months ago....  but no search returns the correct file.

The internal search within the application is broken and has been for a long time... this must be addressed!

I am having this issue as well. I can see the file in the browser but when I search for it nothing shows up. This is a huge problem.
Like honestly just make a list of all my files and I will ctrl+F it...

Hi,

I have followed this thread, but I am helping a client of mine who still has this issue. We also used the Home Tab Search to find the file but it couldn't find the file. There are no special characters, just a simple string of numbers. I can see the file in the data panel. Name is correct. But when searching for it does not show up. Can anyone help?

Thank you

This has gotten worse. Searching from the "home" screen does not always find my file. It is getting increasingly frustrating. I've tried to use the old school " " in the search bar to find an exact match but that doesn't help either.

I have the same issue.  The search feature is BROKEN.  Stop collecting random data and test it one of your updates made it in operable.  This is not a user error...  Add me to you list of probably thousands experiencing the same problem.  Please fix.

This is pretty major problem! Why isn't this fixed already? a simple search function shouldn't be a big deal. I waste all kind of time looking.

this is still an issue. especially if you have subfolders. Waste of time need the easy ability to save to windows so we can easily find our work.

It looks like the Fusion Support team has abandoned this issue as I do not see any responses from the in the messages.  Is this being addressed?  Will it be fixed?  Is there a different solution being offered? Be nice is someone from Fusion responded to this post with an update.

I am also having this problem. Just crazy for something so basic to not work for so long. Search won't find files buried a few sub-folders down. No special characters or anything. Even searching for the full exact file name with proper case, having the file open for editing, and searching specifically within the correct project folder... it still doesn't find it.

Maybe the move to team hubs did this?

I'm having the same issue here.  It's maddening that such a simple and important feature is so unreliable.

Yup. Reported this a while ago. Autodesk is aware they're just too busy adding micro transaction features

It's been a year since I opened this thread, and it still happens on a daily basis. For frequently accessed files I even try naming them crazy things that are unique, with no help.
