Creating a Turner's Cube fails to create bodies correctly

First, I created a 2in x 2in cube. Then, in each face I created 2 construction lines from the centerpoints of each edge and at the center point I created a 1.5in circle and then extruded a -0.5 in cut. On the last cut, there was only 1 body and two 1-dimensional faces instead of the center cube. If, instead of the last cut, I put a 0.5in circle at the correct place on 3 faces of the inner post (which should be a cube) and then 3 cuts straight  straight through the center cube-post, then perform the last cut freeing the center cube from the outer cube, the second body is created correctly.
