Contact set not working

Hi there,

I am an absolute beginner in Fusion 360.

I am trying to get a contact set to work on a rotating hinge I have created, without success.

I have attached the file below. Essentially, I want the circle to rotate until its cube 'chock' hits the the cube on the lower circle (it will make more sense when you see the Fusion file attached below).

Could you point out what I'm doing wrong please?

Regards,

Nick

to understand this, you need to understand how both component drag and contact sets work.  The contact set does work here, but you have to drag slowly.  This is because component drag only samples the mouse position every so often.  Second, contact sets just test for contact between the two components, at the end of each time step.  If you are dragging quickly, the component can blow right past the point of contact.  See the screencast below.  Dragging slowly shows the behavior you want, while dragging quickly can bypass the stop point.

Hey Jeff,

Firstly, thanks very much for the super quick response. This product is excellent and I'm really enjoying the learning curve but also the excellent support that comes out of the community.

That's good to see. When I was clicking 'animate' it seemed like the circle just continuously revolved.

Could you please explain to me how to get that 'look through' view you have in the screencast there, where I can see the chocks hitting each other?

Kind regards,

Nick

Contact Solver is computationally expensive to process.

Aren't your two components technically always in contact at the faces in this joint?

Might add just a bit of Z offset.

@TheCADWhisperer - that's what I thought, as well.  I was all set to respond that way, but for some reason, it does seem to work as expected.  @nickVQBBE - I'm not sure exactly why Animate Model doesn't work correctly.  I think it's because it also drives the joint past the point of contact.  To be honest, as @TheCADWhisperer says, Contact Sets in Fusion is not a great feature.  If it were me, I would use Joint Limits for this.  Model attached.
