COMBINING IMPORTED OBJECT WITH NEW SOLIDS

Hi,
I imported a mesh as an obj file into Fusion 360. It looks like a blobby liquid metal object. My intention is to build new solids in fusion and integrate these with the object, nad here is a problem.
When I try to cut into the object I get this error message:
"Inconsistent information in vertex and coedge attributes"
Is this because the object has so many faces?
I dont need them, I would prefer the object to be smooth but the convertion between mesh and solid was impossible due to the sheer number of faces.
Please help 🙂
