Can you edit the cage of a subd OBJ created in a different program in fusion?

Hi there,

I'm wondering if there's a way to edit the subd model I created on my oculus in fusion. It's an obj file.

I would like to import the obj and edit the subd model using the fusion subd modeling tools.

It seems logical that I can just keep modeling in fusion since I've already got the cage around the model. Not sure what I'm missing. Isn't that supposed to be how subd and obj files work? Make one in one program, open them in another and keep the subd cage around it.

All help is welcome!

Hey mattice258A8,

Fusion 360 does not have SubD modeling tools. It's a parametric solid modeling tool (Brep geometry), which is fundamentally different. There are sculpting tools which are similar to SubD, but if you're starting from a mesh you'll need to rebuild it to get anything useful from Fusion 360.

If the mesh you created in another software is a quad-mesh, then you can import the .obj into Fusion 360 with “Insert->mesh”

Then start a new form, right click on the mesh and Convert it into a t-spline.

That t-spline can be edited similarly to a sub-d quad mesh cage.
