Can't use rectangular pattern repeat on 'some' sketch lines...?

I have a sketch that I edited and added some construction lines. I go to repeat those lines and it won't do it... when the options box for repeat comes up it says I have selected a direction.. so if I clear that it then won't even let me select the line to repeat... Line is nothing special and no constraints. Any ideas?

Hi,

1. Did you use the pattern tool from the sketch environment?

2. Are you in edit mode of the sketch?

Please show the behaviour in a screencast.

I'm editing a sketch. you can see the dotted line selected and if I go to rect pattern you can see it auto selects direction.

I've tried multiple ways round it like not selecting the line first but select the function etc...

Opened and closed Fusion. No joy.

Yes it does let me repeat in other sketches in other components

So setup a new sketch with the component that wasn't working with repeat. Drew one line and yes that can repeat. Happy I drew my setup lines to mark out where the real line would start from and now it is 'not' working on the line I really want to repeat....

So the random line draw near the one I actually want to repeat will repeat normally. The one I have drawn in the right position (mid the dotted line) will not. I even made sure it wasn't connected to anything just centered where I needed it to be...

Are the lines you're trying to pattern on the sketch plane? If you select one of the lines and right click is there an option to move to sketch plane? Other thought is do you have more than one sketch visible and trying to select from another sketch?

Yes that seems to be it, thank you! The feature I was using to make a midline was a part of a seperate part of the drawing and that placed my lines on another plane (not the drawing one).

But so what if I want to reference another useful feature... So what if the line is not flat on the drawing plane just do what I ask Fusion.. not intuitive.. not user friendly that particular little trap..

If the curve is in a different sketch you can just project it into the active sketch.

Yep. Whilst I know this if I'm actively sketching I assume all lines I draw from then on can be interacted with. It is just a little trap that is not helpful to flow...
