Can't select sketch profile for projection

I am modifying an existing project and I need to draw some lines from one sketch profile to another. I was able to do it on the original version by projecting the sketches but for some reason, I cannot select a portion of one of the sketches to project. 

But I can select it in the sketch.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

I figured it out, it needs to be an intersection, not a projection
