BOM wrong number of parts sub assembly

Hello everybody,

yesterday i've found a huge problem and no solution to it.

Example, i have a structure like this.

Main Assembly

- Sub Assembly 1

            - Part 1

            - Part 1

            - Part 2

- Sub Assembly 2

            - Part 1

            - Part 1

            - Part 3

If i now create a new drawing it creats 3 sheets, a main sheet with correct BOM and part numbers, really cool feature btw...

1x Sub 1

1x Sub 2

A second sheet for sub assy 1 with correct parts list, but wrong numbers. It counts all parts in all subs. But only shows the parts build into the sub assy. This doesn’t make any sense, absolutly not!

4x Part 1 (2x Part 1 would be correct)

1x Part 2 (that is correct)

A third sheet with the same Problem

4x Part 1 (2x Part 1 would be correct)

1x Part 3 (that is correct)

So in total i have now

8x Part 1 (4 would be correct)

1x Part 2 (that is correct)

1x Part 3 (that is correct)

How to fix this?? It is impossible wo work this way… this is very wierd.

Sorry for any english mistakes, i've tried my best 🙂

Hoping that anyone knows how to fix this

good to know that it is now on the to-do list, i'm looking forward to the next update than!

Untill this i have to write my boms manually because i did not find any work aroud yet.

It is just my second small prject i've done with fusion und some features are realy cool about it, i' working with CATIA and very large projects for 12 years in my "real" job and Fusion offerd me a completly new view on CAD Systems in some Ways, keep up the good work 🙂

The Best: IT WORKS ON MAC and with cloud system!!! 🙂

Hi @TimeraAutodesk ,

how long do you think it takes to fix this? Maybe in the Next update? So not more than 4 weeks?

I saw that there are a lot of cool BOM features on the roadmap, looking forward to these!

But this is something basic and needs to be fixed very soon!

Atm it's not possible to generate a correct BOM... or is there any simple workaroud??

I recognize how critical this is, and we will fix it as soon as we can, but I can't guarantee it will make it into the next release. I'll keep this thread updated when the team has picked it up and we have a good idea for when we think it will be finished and released.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

@TimeraAutodesk

Hi, still nothing new? Over two months have past and not even an estimated time frame for a fix?

A whole new feature has released, the electronics... but no bug fix in sight??

BOMs are a core feature of CAD Systems, and fusion is out there for a while now. The time should come where it can handle quantities... 🙂

@manuel.fr  I'm happy to report that the team is working on this fix, and has made great progress. It will be a part of the May update for Fusion.

@TimeraAutodeskHello again 🙂

In the Blog from the March Update yesterday was a part about the quantity fix, but i've tested it and the case in this topic with the sub assys is definitly not fixed yet. Can you confirm this?

I've wasted three frustrating hours searching for a solution to this problem. As an acknowledged bug, the answer ought to be easier to locate.

I'm also pretty annoyed that there is a bug this elementary in a product I'm paying for... especially after it's been known for at least four months. I was more forgiving and tolerant when I was using it for free.

I'm using release 2.0.8111 and this bug is still alive and crawling.

Hey @manuel.fr  @Anonymous  , i'm sorry for the frustration you're experiencing due to this. This bug was fixed so I'm sad to hear you're running into it still. Is this happening on newly created parts lists, or are you still seeing it on a parts list that was created before the bug fix went out?

If you could share your file with us that would be very helpful as well.

Thanks,

Timera

I just started this project in the last couple of days, so unless the fix came out Monday this has all been in the current version. I didn't attempt to generate a BOM until this morning. I first learned AutoCAD back when the mouse was optional, and kept using it through about 2008. I'm just learning Fusion (it's taking some adjustment) so I assumed I was doing something wrong.

I have drawn several assemblies as "components", each consisting of multiple low-level "components". Many of these components are used in multiple assemblies. If I generate a drawing with more than one assembly, the BOM table shows the assembly-level components (technically correct). When I make a drawing of just one assembly, the low-level components used in the assembly are included in the BOM table correctly, but the quantities reflect the number of times that component is used in any assembly in the project rather than excluding the suppressed items. I've checked in the design browser to make sure that the low-level components are each individually marked as suppressed ,and they are.

I'm happy to share the design file, I'm just not sure how to export it... will add it when I find that.

I have the same problem explained here.

Main assembly

-Sub assembly 1

-- part A

-- part B

-- part C

- Sub assembly 2

-- part A

-- Part A

On drawing, the bom report wrong part number:

-BOM sub Assembly 1
-- partA: 3 pieces (instread of 1)

...

This bug affect sub assemblies if they are created directly in  main assembly.

If I create another file (sub assembly 1), save it and load it in the main assembly, the BOM have the right quantity.

to fix it, you can click with right mouse button on the sub assembly -> save as -> save in a folder.

Delete the sub assembly from main assemby.

drag the sub assembly saved in the main assembly, and it works.

I hope that this bug will be fixed very quickly ...

Hi all,

There was apparently a miscommunication within our team; the fix for parts list quantities will be in the May update, as earlier reported in this thread. I do not know why it was reported as fixed in the March "What's New" post - and I see it is still there in that post. That is incorrect.

I will work to get the blog post updated (to avoid any further confusion), and I can confirm the fix will be out next month. I am sorry it has taken this long to get the fix out to you; we've made a number of changes over the past 6 months that should help us get fixes into your hands more quickly in the future. Small consolation for this bug, of course, but I do believe we are set up to be more responsive moving forward.

Sorry for the time wasted trying to validate the fix that is not (yet) there.

I am, 3 years later, still running into issues related to this.
This one is a fresh project just started a week ago.

I don't wanna move to SW. I don't want to go to Windows. But BOMs not working is making it reaaaally hard to use Fusion proffessionally.
I can't even export it to excel and manually fix it.

I don't want everything to be in a single flat mega assembly. It's retarded. I just want to copy/pattern sub-assys. Or have a components for all the fasteners.

I can share my whole project if it helps you solve this.

My situation:
Model (components)
-thingamajig
-corner plate ASM
   - corner plate

   -screw A
   - screw B

-(linked copy of) corner plate ASM
   - corner plate

   -screw A
   -screw B

-thing

BOM showing:

1 thingamajig
2 corner plate ASM (looks weird but whatevs)
1 corner plate

1 screw A

1 screw B

1 thing

Should obv be:

1 thingamajig
2 corner plate ASM (looks weird but whatevs)
2 corner plate

2 screw A

2 screw B

1 thing

I am also running into this issue. I have one assembly with two of the same sub assemblies and I only see half of the components of the sub assemblies in the final table.

The full_bracket component is present 12 times in total. But in the table it is shown only 6 + 3 times. Also why is it split into two items (Item nr. 2 and 1.3)?

Please attach the model ONLY and let the Forum users create their own drawing.  Open your model and select File, then Export and save the F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive.  Attach it to a reply post.

I am pretty convinced that this is the result of your assembly structure. There is nothing inherently wrong with the structure.   Fusion 360 cannot create a flat, leaf-level BOM, where all part quantities are properly consolidated into a single line item.

If you can share your model we can provide better detail.
